john brownlie , won us promotion where did he stay

Well spotted kenwood65 totally forgot about John Brownlie.

I just checked and he stays central belt roughly 1 hour from Gayfield although he was born in North Lanarkshire.

Everybody to their own but my personal choice would be to have a local Manager that could easily interact with the fans and local clubs and businesses hence i think "staying within 1 hour of Gayfield" is a good starting point (obviously he has to be a good Manager as well).

Heard from folk who were at the recent AFC Golf Outing that JMc never went back to the prize awards and going by reports he was not in the Hospo after Saturday's game, now some fans might not be concerned about that but in my book you would EXPECT AFC's Manager to give up some of his time to talk to the clubs fans and sponsors.

I would agree with you, shocking that he didn't attend the hospitality and the get together after the golf. The Chairman should be letting him know that this is part of his job.

On the subject of John Brownlie, he stays in the Falkirk area.

I saw Jim and his assistant walking away from Gayfield at 5.30. Maybe not committing to the Hospitality like the previous team who seemed to live for it. A few results on the pitch and it would be irrelevant.

McIntyre doesn’t usually head into the hospitality which Iv absolutely no problem with. The former manager did it to stroke his ego, unless we lost when his assistant was sent up.

A question for those that have spent many a time in hospitality over the past 20 years.

Which managers came up to the hospitality on a regular basis?

I've been involved in football to at least some extent for about 30 years and I've been in hospitality home and away many a time. I don't think I've ever seen a manager in hospitality before or after a game. Usually some sort of club ambassador, a retired 'great' or occasionally injured players. Some clubs send the Man of the Match to collect awards in hospitality. Never seen a manager. Up to each individual club of course what they want from their manager but the idea that it's "part of his job" to come speak to inevitably drunk fans after a game, particularly if it didn't go well, seems bizarre to me. I'm not seeing many a scenario where that doesn't end badly.

From the outside it looks like people are looking for extra reasons to criticise McIntyre. He doesn't live close enough to Arbroath, he doesn't socialise with fans after games. Really? Get some results and nobody will care a monkeys' about either of those things. Dunblane's hardly a different time zone from Arbroath anyway. We train further away from Dumfries than he lives from Arbroath!

At the end of the day McIntyre should, and will, stand or fall on his results. It's not been particularly good yet clearly. I'm not watching Arbroath so in no position to comment on the football. From the outside though, relegation looked pretty likely last season before he was appointed and two games this season (one loss) isn't enough time to give anybody regardless of what Raith Rovers bizarrely think. Generally, his horrendous spell at Dundee which was the wrong appointment from the start given that the fans hated him and Dodds before they got there, he's been pretty successful over the years. He got Dunfermline promoted to the Premiership, probably before they were ready, with the inevitable meek relegation that followed. He did well with us, he initially at least did a great job at Ross County, winning them the League Cup, and even when he was sacked 18 months later it looked a little harsh. Dundee was horrible obviously but he did a decent enough job replacing Hartley at Cove and most people thought his dismissal to make way for Hartley to return from Hartlepool was pretty harsh also. They were pretty comfortably clear of the relegation spots when he was sacked.

So people like Gallagher, Reilly, McAdams, Wilkie, Coulsen are not the right players??

I am not so sure.  Time will tell. Not been overly impressed across the cup games and first two league games.  The guys that have been injured need a bit more time for sure

Dick would come up to hospitality but he was totally in his comfort zone as a regular after dinner speaker.

I wouldn't be expecting McIntyre to do this at all, especially with the current toxic vibe. If he started speaking he would probably send the whole room to sleep anyway.

So who, in your opinion, would've been the right players to bring in?

Surely you’ve been impressed with at least McAdams 😂

If McIntire doesn't or didn't ever want to be involved on hospitality that's fine, probably spoilt how much Campbells went up and spoke, They were a reason some folk went for the entertainment value and it made it more enjoyable for some,

How ever McIntire should 100% have had the decency to appreciate the away support like down at stenny instead of hiding and disappearing up the tunnel,

Most of the signings have been fine, McAdams probably the best so far but it's pretty obvious Watson, Gallagher and Reilly will be good too, Wilkie Coulson and Bisland all young and have potential too and are much better than we have signed last few seasons

Pretty obvious to everyone the centre midfield that's a massive issue, Callaghan is a fine squad player but it's crazy he was given a 2 year deal and seems to be a starter,

There is a decent starting 11 in there somewhere just needs a little bit of creativity in it, just needs the right man in dug out to sort it,

Would be shocked if McIntire is allowed to sign anyone other than on loan the way the stands,

Need Dow and Gold back fit and a a settled starting 11 that has Scotty Stewart up the pitch, Bisland or Steele RB,

Is he?

I heard Dick Campbell speak at a Dinner earlier this year. I was really looking forward to it. He comes across well on the radio with his stories and I've been in his company on occasions also and he's a great storyteller, albeit swearing every 4th word or so. I thought he'd have been perfect for after dinner speaking but it was dreadful. He lost the room within 5 minutes and people were just talking to each other across him. It wasn't long after he'd left Arbroath and I assumed it was maybe his first go at that environment while he wasn't managing. Maybe he just had a bad night though.

There’s a big difference been speaking of the cuff and performing something a bit more rehearsed.

However, probably just a shite crowd.

He's been doing after dinners for decades, normally pretty successfully.   Like everyone tho he'll run out of stories/get fed up of repeating them and/or his humor will become too dated for the audience.

I am not surprised McIntyre has not spent much time coming over to see the fans. You know as well as I do what sort of abuse he would face. Cant blame him for not wanting to deal with that sort of shit.

Mind when McGlashan came over to speak to fans after being bombarded with abuse and he had to be dragged away as he had enough.

Fair enough. There were problems with the sound which certainly didn't help but he had very quickly bored people with his routine. It was a very much a football crowd who would have been 'onside' with him at the start so it was disappointing.
