Chap at work read it on er, Reddit. I don't go on that site as I waste enough time on t'net, but all you need to do is change your home page to this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Random

Then every time you open your browser, you are enlightened with a new factoid. Most of them are utter bollocks (US villages you've never heard of, a song by a band who sound shite etc, motorway junctions etc). Got a bit excited at work this morning, when the URL promised a women's volleyball team. Sadly, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Southern_Nazarene_Crimson_Storm_women%27s_volleyball ... pics and excitement were equally lacking.

But this evening's sounded quite interesting. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pundo

Anyone fancy a game of Pundo or this pointless game?

Edit: What I mean is don't post the shite but the occasional nugget that appears!

Not for me but I am wondering why is there no Wiki page for P&B?

Considering the amount of times a P&Ber has adjusted the infamous Wiki pages it's surprising that there isn't a dedicated Wiki page.

Anyone else play Wiki Races games. Waste hours in uni doing it sometimes with up to 15 players.

In case your wondering rules:

Each player has his own computer.

At the start an agreed destination page is agreed on. Stuff like Jocky Scott or Dobbies Garden Centre are good choices.

Each player clicks random page at the same time.

The winner is the player who reaches the destination page first by only clicking on linked articles.

Back button isn't allowed (history will be checked afterwards).

I think the game I played before was hit random then get to somewhere in a certain number of clicks. Or see who can do it in the fewest.

We used to play the 6 degrees of Kevin bacon in uni to see howany links we could get between a actor/actress and Kevin bacon

http://oracleofbacon.org/index.php

We studied the Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon for Network Theory in my Honours year of maths.

Incidentally, yer man Kev isn't the most connected man in Hollywood. IIRC it's Robert De Niro, with every actor an average of 2.06 steps of connectivity away from the hound Vito Corleone.

  • 1 year later...

Well after over a year of reading about proteins, NFL players from the 70s and Iranian villages, I finally got a random page worth reading.

Ladies and Gentlemen. I present to you... the Death Erection.

There was a game years ago on a music forum I post on where you press Random Article twice to get your band name and album title, then another 12 times to get the names of the songs on your album. It was simpler times back in 2007. I actually used that method when searching for a title for an upcoming EP my real-life band were releasing, which was subsequently titled "Some Thoughts Concerning Education"
