Ira Gaines
Not a massive fan. Easy to see the appeal though. Also, the Afternoon Delight scene might be worth a shout on it's own.
AberdeenBud
Is that the "How'd you like them apples" scene. That's about the only bit I can clearly recall tbh.
Jupiter Jazz
Had GGR 6th. A mesmerising work, as said the dialogue is fantastic and every actor is on the top of his game. Possibly my favourite Al Pacino performance.
Ludo*1
Last one for today: =37 Sleepers Another emotional drama and a true story to boot. One of my favourite films and it is simply one of the best films ever made in my book. So rich and detailed, with a group of boys that you essentially get to grow up with throughout the film. Barbaric at times, funny and sad at others. Points Received: 13.
Ira Gaines
Is that the "How'd you like them apples" scene. That's about the only bit I can clearly recall tbh. Nah. He's on Williams' couch and starts sort of moving into the lyrics of Afternoon Delight and then bursts into song.
Ludo*1
36. The Truman Show. 'In case I don't see ya, good afternoon, good evening and good night.' A movie that is now analysed by film students. Rich with ideas, this quirky film has humour and sadness laced throughout. Perhaps Carrey's first real step-away from an immature character and into a real good piece of storytelling. Points Received: 14.
AberdeenBud
Great film, incredibly prescient with wonderful direction and an astoundingly good performance from Carey. Was my number 10.
Co.Down Hibee
I think Carey shows he does have a lot of acting talent in this movie, many thought he'd go on to make the transition from comedy to some serious oscar style performances like Tom Hanks did, just hasn't happened for him though, made some real duds over the years,
banana
Shows how good the 90s were that The Truman Show is at 36. Interesting premise well developed, in a very well done Hollywood style.
Ira Gaines
Jim Carrey simply held back a bit, and in doing so, provided a hell of a compelling performance. Definitely a top quality movie. Can't argue with anything so far.
Ludo*1
35. Groundhog Day Classic comedy that I actually thought was made in the 80s until starting this list. First out and out comedy we've seen in the list, will there be more to come? Points Received: 15.
Albino Rover
Groundhog Day would be in my top 40 films of all time.
Ludo*1
=33. Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery It's hard not to like Austin Powers, but is it deserving of a place in the top 40? I'm not so sure. P&B obviously thinks so though as it eases into the list. Who can forget the opening segments which have become synonymous with the franchise? Easy watching and great fun! Ira Gaines
The first entry that I actively dislike. f**k Austin Powers.
Pride of Lanarkshire
If True Romance is not at least in the top 5, the lists a joke
banana
First movie from my list to appear. Classic of the spoof comedy genre, well deserved top 40 placement. Also Liz Hurley, phwooooar.
AberdeenBud
Come on now, who the f**k voted for this? I like Myers and Austin Powers is ok, but top 40 films of the 90's? Nah.

Ludo*1
=33. Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. Never seen it and know nothing about it other than it's a bit of a cult classic. Deserved placing? Points Received: 17.
The OP
Great opening scene, but I thought it was a bit of a one trick pony of a film which quickly went downhill.
