AberdeenBud
Required viewing if you were a student in the late 90's. The film doesn't really hold up to it's rep though imo, in that way it's quite a faithful adaptation.
Dee4Life1893
=33. Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. Never seen it and know nothing about it other than it's a bit of a cult classic. Deserved placing? Points Received: 17. I had it second. How Del Toro didn't get an oscar nod for this is criminal. In fact he was panned by critics and considered giving up acting. I love every second of it.
Ira Gaines
Del Toro didn't deserve anything other than the panning he got.

banana
The first entry that I actively dislike. f**k Austin Powers. Come on now, who the f**k voted for this? I like Myers and Austin Powers is ok, but top 40 films of the 90's? Nah.
invergowrie arab
Bollocks I forgot fear and loathing. Should have been in mine. Brilliant performances, amazing sets and costume probably only let down in that there is no strong story as such but that is the book.
Ludo*1
32. Boogie Nights. Has Paul Thomas Anderson made a bad film? His latest film, Inherent Vice sounds as if it could have the makings of being a big style flop, but that could turn into a cult hit. This sexual epic sails into the list and it's certainly a good film, not my favourite from PTA, but certainly one of his best. Ira Gaines
A movie which I really need to see.
AberdeenBud
Great film, in my top 20 but just missed out. PTA is a genius whatever he throws his hand to. Probably Burt Renoylds career high point as well.
yoda
I thought Fear & Loathing was a bit rubbish. The book is much better IMO, although reading the book it does come across as - to use the cliche - "unfilmable". Austin Powers is good fun but it shouldn't be placing higher than Groundhog Day. Boogie Nights is PTA's best 90s film (Hard Eight is second, with Magnolia third). Surprised it didn't make the top 30.
Ludo*1
=30. American History X Brilliant and brutal film in the last tie of the list. Who can forget the infamous kerb stomp scene? A film that doesn't hold back from the start until the finish. Sorry for the large image on this one. Points Received: 19.
Ira Gaines
The kerb stomp scene is terrific. In a sadistic way. The rest of the movie isn't so bad itself.
Dee4Life1893
Every film so far, other that Austin Powers was on my list. Was really hard to get it down to 10.
Albino Rover
It has its excellent moments but it's a bit sycophantic, verging on exploitative, and I think it's been overrated. An interesting watch all the same.
groaninjock
I can't really be doing with Austin Powers, and I thought Fear and Loathing was shite. Truman Show and Groundhog day would have made my list if it had been a top 20 we'd been asked for.
Dee4Life1893
I guess F&L is an acquired taste then. I'm starting to worry if my #1 made it at all.
AberdeenBud
I loved X as an earnest twentysomething but it's not the most subtle or complex film in the world, still one I rate though. Ed Norton was going through a bit of a golden spell at that point.
PrestersKTID
Genuinely surprised at the hate for Austin Powers. Sure its full of stupid jokes but i've laughed at that film so much over the years. Plus Liz Hurley
banana
Good movie, but AHX gets overhyped because of the kerb scene imo. Also looking unlikely that my #1 will make it. Wonder how many 10 pointers there are out there.
