Kyle
The nominees have been announced for this year's Oscars. Loads of British interest with Eddie Redmayne and Benedict Cumberbatch up for best male, Rosamund Pike and Felicity Jones up for best female and Keira Knightley up for best supporting female. The nominees are as follows; Best Picture American Sniper Birdman Boyhood The Grand Budapest Hotel The Imitation Game Selma The Theory of Everything Whiplash Best Actor Steve Carell - Foxcatcher Bradley Cooper - American Sniper Benedict Cumberbatch - The Imitation Game Michael Keaton - Birdman Eddie Redmayne - The Theory of Everything Best Actress Marion Cotillard - Two Days, One Night Felicity Jones - The Theory of Everything Julianne Moore - Still Alice Rosamund Pike - Gone Girl Reese Witherspoon - Wild Best Supporting Actor Robert Duvall - The Judge Ethan Hawke - Boyhood Edward Norton - Birdman Mark Ruffalo - Foxcatcher JK Simmons - Whiplash Best Supporting Actress Patricia Arquette - Boyhood Laura Dern - Wild Keira Knightley - The Imitation Game Emma Stone - Birdman Meryl Streep - Into the Woods Best Cinematography Birdman The Grand Budapest Hotel Ida Mr Turner Unbroken Best Costume Design The Grand Budapest Hotel Inherent Vice Into the Woods Maleficent Mr Turner Best Director Alejandro G Inarritu - Birdman Richard Linklater - Boyhood Bennett Miller - Foxcatcher Wes Anderson - Grand Budapest Hotel Morten Tyldum - The Imitation Game Best Foreign Language Film Iva Leviathan Tangerines Timbuktu Wild Tales Best Make-up and Hairstyling Foxcatcher The Grand Budapest Hotel Guardians of the Galaxy Best Original Score The Grand Budapest Hotel The Imitation Game Interstellar Mr Turner The Theory of Everything Best Adapted Screenplay American Sniper The Imitation Game Inherent Vice The Theory of Everything Whiplash Best Original Screenplay Birdman Boyhood Foxcatcher The Grand Budapest Hotel Nightcrawler Best Animated Feature Film Big Hero 6 The Boxtrolls How To Train Your Dragon 2 Song of the Sea The Tale of the Princess Kaguya Best Documentary Feature Citizen Four Finding Vivian Maier Last Days in Vietnam The Salt of the Earth Virunga Best Documentary Short Subject Crisis Hotline: Veterans Press 1 Joanna Our Curse The Reaper White Earth Best Film Editing American Sniper Boyhood The Grand Budapest Hotel The Imitation Game Whiplash Best Original Song "Grateful" - Beyond the Lights "I'm Not Gonna Miss You" - Glen Campbell...I'll Be Me "Lost Stars" - Begin Again Best Production Design The Grand Budapest Hotel The Imitation Game Interstellar Into the Woods Mr Turner Best Animated Short Film The Grand Budapest Feast Me and My Moulton A Single Life Best Live Action Short Film Aya Boogaloo and Graham Butter Lamp Parvaneh The Phone Call Best Sound Editing American Sniper Birdman The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies Interstellar Unbroken Best Sound Mixing American Sniper Birdman Interstellar Unbroken Whiplash Best Visual Effects Captain America: The Winter Soldier The Dawn of the Planet of the Apes Guardians of the Galaxy Interstellar X-Men: Days of Future Past I can see Birdman doing well in the technical categories, Boyhood will likely (and rightly) take best picture and the bookies have JK Simmons and Patricia Arquette more or less walking the supports and Julianne Moore for best actress. The most interesting one for me looks like being best male - Eddie Redmayne and Michael Keaton seem to be getting tipped as the two to look out for. What's everyone's views? Any ridiculous ones in there or strange omissions?
SodjesSixteenIncher
Pleasantly surprised to see Cotillard in there for Two Days, One Night. Great performance but not the kind of film I'd expect to see it mentioned for Oscars.
Bold Rover
Eddie Redmayne's performance is a real tour de force.
EdgarusQPFC
Cumberbatch deserves best actor, his performance in the Imitation Game is superb
Kyle
Cumberbatch deserves best actor, his performance in the Imitation Game is superb I think Redmayne and Keaton were better in all honesty, although that's no slight on his performance. I'd probably go for Keaton, just, over Redmayne at the moment, although I've not seen American Sniper or Foxcatcher yet.
JustOneCornetto
Thought The Lego Movie would have been among the Best Animation nominations. Haven't seen Birdman but sounds like it could be the big winner. Going to see Whiplash tomorrow and looking forward to JK Simmons performance. 11thHour
I'm gonna need to see The Grand Budapest Hotel now. It looked utter tosh to me when I saw the trailer but its up for damn near every category. Havent seen any of the films from the Best Picture category and the only ones that interest me are American Sniper and The Imitation Game but I'm gonna have to see more of that category. Steve Carell will win Best Actor because of the "transformation" he went under for his role, that seems to bag folk oscars.
mrcat1990
Disappointed but unsurprised Nightcrawler didn't pick up more nominations. Didn't expect it to get a best picture nomination but Gyllenhall thoroughly deserved one for best actor.
Quentin Taranbino
I didn't enjoy Grand Budapest at all and turned it off about an hour in. I just didn't find it funny at all.

JamieStevenson
Only film I've seen out of that lot is the X-Men film tbh. I do plan on eventually watching most of the films mentioned though.
yoda
The Imitation Game nominated ahead of Foxcatcher? Surprised The LEGO Movie didn't get a nomination in the Animation category.
Sooky
Only one I have seen is The Imitation Game, which I loved. I am seeing Theory of Everything on Saturday however.
Kyle
Went to see Foxcatcher last night. Carrell isn't in the same league performance wise as Cumberbatch, Redmayne or Keaton IMO, which isn't to say he wasn't very good. Ruffalo stole the show for me with both the way he played the character and his physical acting. I'm going to see Whiplash and American Sniper if I have the time tomorrow. Bobby Skidmarks
The Lego Film is fucking crazy, it's like giving a Pixar film a swedger.
DA Baracus
The Lego film is glorious and only bitter husks of a person don't like it.
deadasdillinger
Astounded the Lego Movie got snubbed. Boyhood should win best picture and deservedly so. Same goes for JK Simmons with best supporting. Had fancied a flutter on both but the odds are ridiculous, reflecting the fact that they're heavy, heavy favourites. Whiplash in best adapted screenplay might be a shout - it's only in there on a technicality. Would like to see Birdman and Grand Budapest pick up some awards too, having really enjoyed both. WullieBroonIsGod
I saw American Sniper today. I was a bit let down in all honesty. Fascinating guy and his story is very interesting but Eastwood has overegged the pudding. Bradley Cooper is outstanding however
yoda
I was having some serious Oscar discussion with a mate yesterday, which was good for refreshing my memory over some issues I have. I'm very disappointed that Scarlett Johansson in Under The Skin didn't get a nomination for Best Actress. It's a massive snub - I've not seen Julianne Moore yet but Johansson betters the other four nominees (and I'm a massive fan of Cotillard in Two Days, One Night). Also, no Gone Girl for Best Adapted Screenplay? Come on. And finally, Jake Gyllenhaal should have been nominated ahead of Bradley Cooper in the Best Actor category.
