I can see Birdman doing well in the technical categories, Boyhood will likely (and rightly) take best picture and the bookies have JK Simmons and Patricia Arquette more or less walking the supports and Julianne Moore for best actress. The most interesting one for me looks like being best male - Eddie Redmayne and Michael Keaton seem to be getting tipped as the two to look out for.

What's everyone's views? Any ridiculous ones in there or strange omissions?

Cumberbatch deserves best actor, his performance in the Imitation Game is superb

I think Redmayne and Keaton were better in all honesty, although that's no slight on his performance. I'd probably go for Keaton, just, over Redmayne at the moment, although I've not seen American Sniper or Foxcatcher yet.

I'm gonna need to see The Grand Budapest Hotel now. It looked utter tosh to me when I saw the trailer but its up for damn near every category. Havent seen any of the films from the Best Picture category and the only ones that interest me are American Sniper and The Imitation Game but I'm gonna have to see more of that category.

Steve Carell will win Best Actor because of the "transformation" he went under for his role, that seems to bag folk oscars.

Disappointed but unsurprised Nightcrawler didn't pick up more nominations. Didn't expect it to get a best picture nomination but Gyllenhall thoroughly deserved one for best actor.

Went to see Foxcatcher last night. Carrell isn't in the same league performance wise as Cumberbatch, Redmayne or Keaton IMO, which isn't to say he wasn't very good. Ruffalo stole the show for me with both the way he played the character and his physical acting. I'm going to see Whiplash and American Sniper if I have the time tomorrow.

Astounded the Lego Movie got snubbed.

Boyhood should win best picture and deservedly so. Same goes for JK Simmons with best supporting. Had fancied a flutter on both but the odds are ridiculous, reflecting the fact that they're heavy, heavy favourites.

Whiplash in best adapted screenplay might be a shout - it's only in there on a technicality.

Would like to see Birdman and Grand Budapest pick up some awards too, having really enjoyed both.

I was having some serious Oscar discussion with a mate yesterday, which was good for refreshing my memory over some issues I have. I'm very disappointed that Scarlett Johansson in Under The Skin didn't get a nomination for Best Actress. It's a massive snub - I've not seen Julianne Moore yet but Johansson betters the other four nominees (and I'm a massive fan of Cotillard in Two Days, One Night).

Also, no Gone Girl for Best Adapted Screenplay? Come on.

And finally, Jake Gyllenhaal should have been nominated ahead of Bradley Cooper in the Best Actor category.
