I'm coming off my 'we don't need to spend money' high horse and saying we should be investing in backroom staff, we need a better goalkeeping coach, a new defensive coach and a man management specialist, as the guys we have on the books seem to fall short in these three areas for me.

Unless you actually work for the club and are exposed to these people as individuals I can't see how you could possibly know whether these guys are doing a decent job or not.

Not trying to rub salt in the wounds, but I'm struggling to remember a Scottish top flight team who have fallen so much so rapidly unless for financial or point deduction reasons - ie Hearts, Rangers. OK teams go up and down the league places over the years but they've just dropped like a stone.

Top six places for the previous five seasons, top three places for the last three seasons, now struggling to stay ahead of the relegation and play off spots. Seems a hell of a fall from grace.

It's a strange one, 2 seasons ago we had a good team, playing some quality stuff. Last season we played poorly most the time, but still scored goals and won even more games than the year before. This year we are playing even worse, not scorng goals and not getting results.

Well that's one way of looking at it, however from watching the club on the pitch this is my interpretation of the situation.

Firstly our sports psychologist is suffering from cancer and is being less involved in the club as the days go by. She needs replaced, we've a squad full of players with confidence and attitude issues.

Secondly its the defensive coaches job coach and improve defenders, this is clearly not happening, I haven't seen a progression in any defensive player since JMac and his staff joined. They are also responsible for training the squad at how to defend set-pieces, clearly this is also not being addressed, and thiss before you stop and think about the coaching staff barring JMac who knows anything about defending? Darren Jackson the strker? Maybe Simon Donnelly the attacking midfielder?

Goalkeeping? Do I even need to explain we we need to replace or add to the goalkeeping staff? Or do we just say Rado must be shite?

It's clear the staff at the moment need a little more specialization and you don't need to work with the team on a daily basis to see this, you need to look at the basic errors and regressing players in certain areas of the pitch.

Agree with peeeel, too many clean sheets being predicted for a United match.

And going with what Motherwell fans are saying, I'm going for 4-2

We can't score goals though, that's why there are so many predictions of 'Motherwell 0". John Sutton is our goal threat, apart from that we've got nothing and even then we have no one in the team able to supply Sutton with decent service in order to create scoring opportunities so unless United score an o.g, Sutton gets a tap in or Ainsworth pulls a spectacular strike out of nowhere then we are not scoring here.

Confidence is definately understated. In a league where ability wise there isn't a massive gulf between teams its going to be magnified. Motherwell players feeling down, losing the first goal and so on.

Both of which I can remember happening at Tannadice on more than one occasion :bairn

Granted, but the heads are firmly down with this current bunch and there is no desire, no urgency to do anything and frankly, no hope of us scoring at Tannadice.

We will win this, 3-1. Decent game follows shite game.

Fully expect us to put in a steaming jobby of a performance and get cuffed away from home in the semi next week.

Rankin, Paton and Watson to drop out, with Spittal, Butcher and Telfer coming in. Dillon at CH until Morris is back please. If Motherwell's game last night is anything to go by, they wont be attacking too much so dont see the need to play as many defensive players.

He won't drop his beloved Pates, especially if he's dropping his bit on the side Ranks too.

Hard to disagree with this interpretation if I'm honest..

We might have good youth coaching and be okay in other areas but we are lacking/need freshening up in many others.

Hastag - Peeeeel for Ops manager @ Tanadice ;)
