I see Frazer Wrights been quoted on the unofficial twitter saying Ciftci hasn't gone anywhere near him since the Cup Final, before adding he thinks the Turk is a really good player.

Funnily it did look on Saturday as if Ciftci was trying to hit shots before he got near Wright, and the one time they both challenged for a header Ciftci completely shat himself where usually hed be chesting it down.

One of the reasons Ciftci will never be a top player is down to his mentality and the fact that opposition players can wind him up so easily. I'm sure Wright would fully admit how much talent Ciftci has but the fact is Wright has him in his back pocket. If Ciftci was a top player he would relish facing players like Wright but instead he bottles it. Add to that he is a petulant kid at times it really is frustrating just how much Ciftci's mentality is holding him back.

To be fair to Cifcti, he played well in our 2-0 win against St Johnstone earlier this season, with Wright playing in that match. Dingied the St Johnstone defence for our first goal that day.

Not entirely sure I buy the theory about us having some sort of mental deficiency when it comes to playing Saints. Won fairly comfortably in the first Tannadice fixture, and McNamara's still baffling decision to leave the clearly injured Calum Morris on at McDiarmid for most of the second half was the main reason for our late capitulation that day. The manager's tactical ineptitude and curious decision making at times ('resting' our first team in the 3-0 Stevie May game being another obvious example) is our biggest problem, rather than the mentality of the players.

He does seem to save his most calamitous f**k-ups for St Johnstone games, though.

Cifti is a class player. Even in games where Saints have had the measure of him he will have one or two great moments. I usually come away from games with utd thinking he is Utd's best player, maybe not so much on Saturday past.

He has pace, a great touch, a great strike, can go past players, is decent in the air and scores goals. There aren't many players playing in the UK outwith the English premiership that have all those attributes...

Yet he obviously has a weakness in his mental approach to games; the cup final when Fraser Wright got into his head, the last game at McDiarmid when saints fans were giving him stick and he got upset by it and started shouting back etc Etc.

The one thing I can never understand with clubs up here is that we tend to take the attitude "that's just the way he is" or something daft like "he's Turkish and that's why he's highly strung". If he was in the uk cycling team or an athlete and had all the physical attributes to win medals, but failed cos his head wasn't right in big competitions or whatever, he would be spending hours and hours with a sports psychologist to develop his mental strength. It seems to be something we still don't fully buy into in this country.

If he had a problem with an injury, clubs would spend a fortune to get him to see a specialist and get the very best of treatment.

He's only young, he could easily be worth a good few million with more consistency and a stronger mentality, be a shame if Utd didn't try to get the most out of the ability he has.

Got a message from an Arab today. Apparently Fraser Wright kicked someone off the ball (AGAIN!! - apparently) which is why he was singled out for abuse by Arabs. . This led to him offering boys onto the pitch for a scrap which brought the seethe to boiling point.

My Arab pal is still utterly seething. Nice work Mr Wright.

Spot on. He's a good player but could be a great player with a bit of help on the mental side of the game.

I thought it was a brilliant challenge. Unless there was another incident.

Well if you define shin high and studs up as "brilliant" you're just cementing my opinion you're a backwards thinking moron.

This morning it was knee high, now it's shin high. This is definite progress.

Nah definitely wasn't knee high. He's done knee ligaments, but that wouldn't be the case if it was straight on his knee, it's the force of jerking the leg back that's strained them.

Bear in mind one of the folk describing it was me.

The challenge that was also right in front of the referee, who gave a throw-in?

The ref was Collum, who seemed absolutely determined to give as little decisions as he could, the time it took to bring out a yellow was surreal.
