The 2016 US Presidential Election

I don't trust Hillary Clinton because of the allegations that have come out against her. I voted against her on March the 1st. I honestly believe that she isn't trustworthy. I don't trust her to be in The White House. I wouldn't even trust her to be the mayor of my town.

Which one controversy?

Benghazi? Whitewater? The email controversy? Being a lesbian?

Oooft - the board is replete with articulate Bears.  What an amazing bunch we are.

What's your own story, Mike?  Are you an exile Scots or another NA cousin who kens the score?

I dabble in bigotry against Muslims and Mexicans as a hobby, but my real passion is bigotry against the Irish.

Why would an individual with a history of personal self-serving success ever fight for anyone's interests other than his own? What has Trump ever done that wasn't soley for his own personal gain?

He could well be brilliant at getting deals, despite the litter of failed business ventures trailing in his wake, but who would they be for? For you Mike? For the goddamned US of A? I think not.

Advocating for a ban on Muslim immigration surely isn't in his own interest. He didn't need to offer such a controversial opinion that will mark him for the rest of his life with the scarlet "R" in the media, pop culture, and large parts of polite society. But it shows that the core of his political ideology is that he wants policies which place ordinary Americans first, and he's willing to sacrifice his social standing with America's elite in order to advocate for such policies.

When you are in the real estate and branding business you are going to have a few duds.

Gettin Greedy for the USA!

So, the Daily Beast is reporting that the Cuban Mistress Crisis (LOL) has been shopped to all the major media outlets by Rubio surrogates for months. There's supposedly a video of Cruz leaving hotels with women other than his wives, but none decided to run with the story. This would be relevant because if this is the case Cruz would have been prepared for this story to drop eventually and he would definitely know that Trump was not responsible. He decided to blame Trump anyways.

Not surprising given it's caucuses.

An interesting thing about this election is that caucuses have benefited the establishment on the Republican side and the outsider on the Democrat side. When the people actually get a chance to vote in a normal election we get Trump v Clinton.

Worth a read if only for phrases like:

"...You can’t blame Cruz for seeing Trump’s tiny fingerprints on the story..."

In any normal modern country this wouldn't matter, because people would be more surprised if their politicains were not doing this sort of thing, but when your main support base is "born again" evangelicals this could be pretty devastating.

It's called The Daily Beast. I wouldn't get too upset over it's content.

The National Enquirer alleged on March 23 that the senator has had five extramarital affairs. And the descriptions it provided of the women—along with barely-pixelated headshots of them—left little to D.C. insiders’ imaginations as to who the Enquirer had accused of being Cruz paramours.

“A HOOKER, A TEACHER & COWORKERS: 5 romps that will destroy Ted Cruz!†the Enquirer piece boldly claims, in an article that includes a wild “sex-in-closet†allegation.

Lucky b*****d.

The crazy thing about all of this, is that the election should be an open goal for the Republicans. Hillary Clinton - the only Democratic 'name' to enter the race - has now lost the primaries in fifteen states. FIFTEEN. That's fifteen states who wouldn't even choose her as their parties nominee, let alone President. She's won 20/35 with no credible opposition actually entering the race. Sanders was unknown outside of his tiny, virtually all-white state, has virtually no big backers and has described himself as a socialist. In parts of America he'd be as well calling himself a rapist such is the reaction to that word and those kinds of policies.

She's only a couple of hundred delegates ahead in the popular vote, were it not for the 'establishment' aligning themselves with Clinton and the media portraying the contest as done and dusted as a result that count could've been even closer. That is absolutely incredible given the situation when it all began, and given that Sanders is running against his own party as well as Clinton - 1/46 senators have given their support, 7/193 House members, 20/435 DNC members, etc.

Dare I say it, if Bill Clinton wasn't a bona-fide hit with the minority community during his time in power she might just have ended up losing the selection process, establishment figures and super-delegates on board or not. Which is utterly astounding.

The real story of this election should be Bernie Sanders, and Hillary Clinton's deep unpopularity given she can't convincingly win a one-horse race. Instead, she'll somehow ride a crest of anti-Trump opinion into the White House.

Bewildering.
