The Great Big Kilmarnock Thread

Is it a three year playing deal for Elbows? That's genuinely mental.

No.

McCulloch has signed a one year playing deal. He even said himself on the STV website that he'll only play as a last resort and that he wouldn't stand in the way of a youngster coming through.

In my opinion any other person who posts on here in a standard "3 year deal?!?!?!?!!!!!!????!!!!" type format is outing themselves as an utter idiot - even worse than those who have done so already today.

It's not a rumour. Those are the prices for the Dundee game so it makes sense to assume that they will be our walk-up prices for the season.

Interview in the Standard with Jim Mann. More positive noises from the chairman.

It’s now over three months since Jim Mann took over as Kilmarnock FC chairman.

In that time he has overseen the appointment of manager Gary Locke, looked on nervously as the club narrowly avoided a relegation play-off and helped to re-build a depleted squad with seven new faces.

It hasn’t all been plain sailing so far for this boyhood Kilmarnock fan, but he insists he’s enjoyed the hustle and bustle which has come with life at the top of the boardroom table.

“I’ve found it hard work so far. It has been interesting hard work and sometimes disappointing hard work but overall I think we’re making pretty good progress,” said Mann in an exclusive interview with the Kilmarnock Standard.

“As a club we have demonstrated that we are following the strategy which was set out at the AGM.”

One point in the strategy was developing young talent at the club. Last week under-20’s boss Alan Robertson signed up a new batch of stars in the hope of developing them into top young players.

The importance of having young, hungry players isn’t lost on chairman Mann. In fact, he sees it as the key point in what the new board are trying to achieve.

In reality, every club in Scotland are a selling club and Killie are no different. And Mann believes if some of the current youngsters fulfil their potential, that could help the club both on the park and off.

He said: “I think from a youth point of view, the investment in six contract for young players is a big step forward for the club.

“It might not seem a major thing at the moment but investing in that quality of youth and a couple of amateur contracts essentially gives us a much, much bigger base to work from in
terms of young players coming through.

“Watching Alan Robertson working with the under-20s squad, I’m absolutely chuffed to bits with these young men and I think they are going to be big stars for the football club moving forward.

“It’s a longer term strategy, as we’re a selling club, and if you don’t invest in that material then you don’t have anything to sell in a few years time.”

Other clubs in Scotland are developing talent and selling them on for significant sums.

But it is now three years since the club received £250,000 from Everton for Matthew Kennedy .

Although Mann believes it’s too soon in the cycle for Kilmarnock to receive a big transfer fee this season, he does think there is potential there.

And he admits he doesn’t have to look too far for a good example of how to be shrewd in the transfer market.

“I think the model is Dundee United when you look at the business they’ve done in the past few years – we’d bite your arm off for £1.5 million for a pretty aggressive forward like Nadir Ciftci,” said Mann.

“£1.5 million coming into your club when your turnover is half a million is quite a big number. We’re luckier than some other clubs because we have no debt but we’re in a position where we are asset rich and cash poor.

“That £1.5 million coming in solves the cash poor problem for us.”

The new board have a three year plan, so what is the end game?

“Where would we like to be in three years? Consistently top six,” said Mann.

“Europe is the three year target because we don’t really feel a club of this stature should be languishing at the bottom end of the table and having all the worries and difficulties we’ve had in the past few seasons.

“We want to be worrying about whether we’re going to be in Europe and not whether we’ll be in the top six.

“We realise that this structure we’ve brought in will take time to mature but we have laid down the planks of what we want to get done and we now need to make sure we make that happen.”

Where have you saw this as on the killie website it only says walk up prices coming soon. No confirmation of prices.
