Don't think it'd be any different to the normal situation. Winners of the HL & LL from the previous season gain entry, as do the 30 non-Premiership SPFL clubs from the previous season. So Brora, Edinburgh City and Montrose would all play in the first round as you would expect.

Not correct, it's the 30 non-Premiership SPFL clubs in the CURRENT season.

If it was as you implied then Hearts would be in next year's challenge cup and Maureen would not.

I think the correct definition is

-30 non-premiership SPFL clubs in the current season

-Reigning HL champion

-Reigning LL champion

-If a club fits two of the above definitions then the relegated club from league 2 in the previous year gets in

Basically it's

Prem 12 (1 club)

Championship 5-10 (6 clubs)

Teams involved in the premiership playoffs, except the winners (3 clubs)

All league 1 clubs (10 clubs)

League 2 clubs 1-9 (9 clubs)

Teams involved in the league 2 playoffs (3 clubs)

Preliminary - Sat 5 Sep 2015

First Round - Sat 26 Sep 2015

Second Round - Sat 24 Oct 2015

Third Round - Sat 28 Nov 2015

Fourth Round - Sat 9 Jan 2016

A very welcome return to a post New Year slot for the 4th Round next season. Much better at that time of year than the end of November.

Thank f**k for that. Having the fourth round in late November/start of December is absolutely brutal. Well, that and endlessly drawing Celtic.

It should always be held in early January and never should have been moved. Does this also mean that the nonsensical "winter break" has been chucked again?

There hasn't really been a winter break for a while. Last couple of seasons clubs were allowed to cancel a home game to generate their own break but I think only Celtic did so.

They moved R4 into autumn to allow for a winter break in 2012-13 but SPL scrapped it for 2013-14.

After SPL was established in 1998 there were winter breaks in 1998-99 (2 weekends), 1999-00 (3) and 2000-01 (3)... but in those days R3 (equivalent of current R4) was in late January. Since then moved to early January.

Only subsequent breaks were 2002-3 (2 weekends), and 2012-13 (2) with early R4.

Scottish Cup dates, according to the Lowland League fixturelist pdf, although they were already decipherable from Highland League and SPFL lists:

http://slfl.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2015/06/The-Scottish-Lowland-Football-League-Season-2015-16-Fixture-List.pdf

William Hill Scottish Cup

First Preliminary Round Saturday 15th August 2015

Second Preliminary Round Saturday 5th September 2015

First Round Saturday 26th September 2015

Second Round Saturday 24th October 2015

Third Round Saturday 28th November 2015

Fourth Round Saturday 9th January 2016

Fifth Round Saturday 6th February 2016

Sixth Round Saturday 5th March 2016

Semi-Finals Saturday/Sunday 16th/17th April 2016

FINAL Saturday 21st May 2016

Some chap called 'riddles' (appropriately) on the FitbaNorth forum also seems to have unravelled who will enter the Scottish Cup when, and loaded it up in a spreadsheet:

http://www.fitbanorth.com/download/file.php?id=346

That appears to tally with a Huntly fan - who posted at the start of the month that there would be 10 First Preliminary ties and 5 Second Preliminary.

More a topic for a thread on the cup itself - but it appears there will be 92 entrants in this season's Scottish Cup which will run to 10 rounds. Must be a long time since either was equalled. FA Cup in England runs to 14 rounds with about 730-740 entrants so if you consider it per-head-of-population ours is now more widely entered. Oddly enough it also runs from Aug 15th to May 21st.

For those unable/unwilling to download the attachment, the chap on FitbaNorth appears to have figured-out that the entry should be:

entering First Preliminary Round

1x HL - Cove

1x LL - Vale of Leithen

4x EOSL - Lothian Thistle, Civil Service, Burntisland, Hawick

3x SOSL - Wigtown, Newton Stewart, St Cuthbert

1x NCL - Golspie

4x Juniors - Hermes, Kelty, Auchinleck, Girvan

1x Amateur - Harestanes

entering Second Preliminary Round

none

entering First Round Proper

15x HL - all others

12x LL - all others

1x EOSL - Coldstream

2x Juniors - Banks o'Dee, Linlithgow

1x Amateur - Glasgow Uni

entering Second Round Proper

2x HL - Brora, Turriff

2x LL - Edinburgh City, EK

10x SPFL2

etc.

It does seem to tally with SFA licensing table, LL fixture list, and the claim of another poster that there are 10 & 5 ties respectively in preliminaries.
