Honest_Man#1
I don't even really understand why. I know Irish folk from Belfast that will refer to the Republic as 'South Ireland' on occasion. No idea, the Southern Irish seem to get really seething though with hilarious results so I'm all for it.
Mark Connolly
I can understand those from Donegal maybe having issues with being referred to as Southern Ireland, but not to the seethe levels you actually see.

Half Rice Half Chips
The biggest seethe, quite rightly too, is that proud independent republics like Georgia, Germany, Ireland and Poland, are forced to play British monarchist provincial representative selections like "gibraltar" and "scotch land". How and why are makey-uppy "countries" such as "gibraltar" and "scotch land" even allowed to compete at so-called international level? It's a complete joke! Half Rice Half Chips
Must be especially hard when they beat the Southern Irish then. It's not unusual that a provincial selection might occasionally be stronger than a genuine national team. "scotch land" has a relatively strong provincial selection at the moment, but Catalonia would probably have been European and World champions had they been granted the same permission to compete at "international" level as "scotch land". Scotland were a country long before any Union mate. Funny that you're having a go at 'Scotch land' being British when your squad for the game against us last time was 55% British... That's funny. Southern Ireland having to rely on the Brits to have a competitive football team, that we still beat anyways.
