The Greenock Morton Thread - It's Better Than Yours

Broadfoot - How do you go from Broomhill, 5th tier to Championship at the age of 38 (39 by the season start).

Kinda blown my mind if he’s anywhere near your starting 11 as he’s well past it and thought he’d retired. Good in his day so assuming it’s absolute emergency cover and maybe coaching / training for the future ?

Would assume he'll do the same job as big Efe did last season which I don't mind. Would be concerned if we went into the new season with him as our starting right back/ centre back. Will have to go with Dougies judgement on it.

Miller was very good in the run-in, and you could argue that was just him having needed time to settle and get a run of games, but we're still talking about a player who only managed 4 or 5 good performances in half a season. That could just as easily have been a purple patch, or more cynically a case of turning it on when he needed to earn a contract, with his earlier performances being the norm. Being able to play left back was very useful versatility but it was debatable if he was even part of our strongest XI, while I'd have happily kept him he's far from irreplaceable.

From about halftime in the Hamilton game he was a different player and had an excellent run-in, but that wouldn't have been his only purple patch as a player when he would go onto later disappoint. I honestly have no idea where his career will go from here.

See he has signed for Falkirk, surely not outbid by them in terms of wages?

It would be more of a shock if we were competing with Falkirk on wages. For all we're in a considerably better financial place than last summer, we'll more than likely still have a lower budget than everyone in this division other than Airdrie.

Brad Spencer had the option of another year with us, probably on very favourable terms, yet went there as well. They've specialised in setting money on fire the last four seasons trying to escape the hell hole that is League One, so why would this be any different?

Pretty much this.

I'm sure we will have gave him a decent offer but Falkirk will be throwing their 5th kitchen sink at this to get back up. Love to know how much money they have wasted since Hartley.

Be glorious if it fails once again.

Or he preferred a 2 year deal at the seaside rather than a 1 year deal in the Championship, see also Spencer.

Just seen 2 years.  I've never really rated him, billy big baws attitude from start to finish at Ayr, lower half Championship and below will be his level.

Calvin Miller, is he any good?

Played more games than he should have but Dougie liked him. The majority of Morton fans were seething every time he started ahead of McGrattan.

Poor first half of his stint, came onto a game during the run in.

In no way did he do enough to get a 2 year deal so we were never matching that.

On paper, should be a good signing for Falkirk unfortunately. Just as likely he will follow in the 'illustrious' footateps of McGuffie and Nesbitt and suffer the same fate though.
