Anyone know how a guns serial number helps law enforcement? In America they've banned digitalising gun serial numbers for privacy reasons, to please the gun lobby, so the authorities can take weeks combing through boxes of files, many of which were soaked in a flood. A further law to reduce the size of the magazine was blocked by the courts. But the shooter himself is still at large. ETA the hire van was on Arizona registration plates which is a hell of a drive.
