The key comment for me was not the Spanish MEP's but Labour's David Martin "predicting the UK will no longer exist unless a “flexible and imaginative” Brexit solution is found for Scotland. I agree. I think the EU will want to make themselves inclusive, while the UK continues to make itself exclusive.

If child tax credits are only to be given for the first and second child, then it seems like a very fair idea to give additional credits for a third child if conception has been due to rape. I'm sure we can all agree on that.

I don't quite get the outrage at the policy. In what way should a woman have to inform the relevant people the child was conceived through rape? Is there a 'better way' than filling in a form? Genuinely looking for informed responses as I'm not quite getting the uproar

I thought the anger was with the 'rape clause', not the reduction to CTC only being paid for the first two children? (although you could obviously disagree with that as well)

In my case it's both.  Women who have been raped and subsequently have a child should not have to jump through hoops to get state support. Putting a two-child limit on CTCs is brainless and short-sighted.
