williemillersmoustache
Anti-British racism, superb stuff. And more of this union divided pish please. Do regale your local Conservative Associations, fox hunts and WI's on how we blow it all on independence, tonic wine, genital unnaturalness and frisps.

Wee-Bey
Surely it's xenophobia rather than racism if we're going to go down that particularly silly route. I don't mind the Saxons, it's the Angles I have an acute dislike of.

Dan Steele
This harking back to 1707 coupled with all SNP supporters are racist is swaying me towards just eating my cereal and putting up with life in this glorious one nation. This democracy lark is over-rated.

Its all very well criticising the SNP government....and much of the criticism is justified.....but painting a devolved administration with limited powers and fixed fiscal constraints as being primarily responsible is being disingenuous. The bulk of our nations economic and social woes continue to be the fault of, as you described, shite British governance. 3. This is just pish.....and you know it. Scotland is blighted with an incompetent and mendacious regional administration - which is why support of Partition hasn't changed in 8 years despite all the bollocks in the rest of Britain. Scotland also runs a fiscal deficit and is featherbedded by London and the SE. That The Nats are utter shite at using this bonus doesn't matter. All they have to cry is 'levers' and the Nat loyal will keep supporting them. You're never going to get Partition 'over the line' with dugs and banners and jimmy bunnets. You need to do government better and you have loads of resources to do that. -

Guest Jedi
Independence and the constitutional question has now been front and centre of Scottish politics since 2011, since the SNP won their Holyrood landslide. Some 11 years, during which time, yes, they have won 8 elections in a row. However, despite that dominance, Independence has very rarely polled over 50%, and when it has done so (50/51/52) it has been briefly. It has never yet come close to what would be a 'comfortable' majority of 55-60% Of course, any Referendum requires 51% to win, but with support having consistently hovered at around 40-45% the comfortable majority polling still feels some way off (may yet happen in the future). The main point is that despite dominance in elections, despite Brexit, despite the utter shambles which has been Tory govt since 2010, that the SNP have failed to consistently persuade a clear majority of the electorate that Independence is the desirable option. Its an ongoing cycle now.....around 45% of voters who will always back them in elections, which will always land them a majority of seats whether at Holyrood or in a GE. But when it comes to the constitutional question....again its the same sort of figure, which isn't enough to either win a Ref (if there was one), or put more pressure on a UK govt due to consistently high 'Yes' polling. Do the SNP have to ask themselves why? after Brexit, the Tory govts we have had etc, and their own running of Holyrood, (with very little opposition), as well as many local councils......is it their tactics? the way they present the case? Which is it, and what will change?

We might as well disband the SFA and all go under the banner of our new masters at Lancaster Gate. (Our biggest two clubs would probably be all for it) I am sure no one would miss visiting Hampden to see the lads in dark blue and we can then all get fully behind Team GB playing at Wembley and singing GSTK.

Aye, the last bit in particular gives the lie to that legal fiction. There was never any serious attempt to form a modern nation out of the old Kingdoms. England and her Parliament went on as they had before, with their ancient traditions unmolested and with a few awkward Scots shoved in the corner. Out of a 315 year old Union, its really only in the last 100 years that there has existed a universal suffrage and government elected by popular vote. The SNP winning a by election only 45 years after that, the first Devolution vote occurring 12 years after that (and torpedoed). In the 23 years since the Devolution vote we've seen an acceleration towards those parties that ate in favour of independence. The story of popular democracy in Scotland is one of a building momentum towards re-establishing Scottish sovereignty.
Meeniedee
we are a country not a fucking region of the uk and regardless of what the supreme court said(i've no idea what they said)will ever convince me otherwise. too many cap doffers and folk who base their countries future on what football team they support...its fucking laughable at how many "scots" just sit back and enjoy being ruled by england
