Was it currently held by labour? If so by how much and what the expected voting numbers?

it was held by labour before and was classed as a safe before UKIP took it in may but the UKIP councilor is moving so it forced a by election its between UKIP and Labour

Newington- results

Mo Leys (UKIP)- 884 - elected

Vince Munday (UKIP)- 845- elected

Karen Constantine (LAB)- 728

David Green (LAB)- 713

Daphne Sharp (CON)-390

Jill Bayford (CON)- 363

were the results in MAY

Big shock in Newington

Labour stronghold Newington has gone purple! Former council cabinet member David Green is one of the casualties.

Hamilton N. & E. (South Lanarkshire) first prefs:

SNP: 42.9% (+2.4)

LAB: 33.6% (-9.4)

CON: 18.5% (+8.4)

GRN: 3.3% (+0.1)

LDEM: 1.8% (+1.8)

Classed as an SNP hold but given previous first preference votes more like a gain

Classed as SNP hold as it was my SNP branch colleague Cllr Lynne Adams passing away that triggered the by-election.

It's a 4 member ward - the other 3 councillors being Labour so this was a must win.

Wasn't involved in this campaign myself as been too busy at work and/or campaigning times not suiting me but will be involved in campaign for (hopefully) getting Christina McKelvie re-elected in May.
