Newbornbairn
If Scotland votes to stay in the union then all 13 of the new type 26 ships will be clyde built. Nothing to do with the SNP. How many would be built in an independent Scotland? As it stands, all the Type 26 will be built in Scotland.

kevthedee
More broken promises. Jobs lost , cuts etc etc. All the info you need is right here, perhaps the SNPS angus robertson should read it before slavering his normal rubbish. https://ukdefencejournal.org.uk/no-five-frigates-have-not-been-cancelled/
Uncle Psychosis
8 are being built, the other 5 have not been ordered yet to put the money to other projects. Its incredible how many people (mainly SNP supporters and the Daily Record, it seems, but some Tories appear to have done it too) are unable to add 8 and 5 together to make 13. https://ukdefencejournal.org.uk/government-confirm-13-frigates-will-be-built-in-scotland/ https://ukdefencejournal.org.uk/no-five-frigates-have-not-been-cancelled/
bennett
Instead of the 13 ships that were promised if Scotland voted to remain in the union, we'll order 8 ships and maybe order another 5 smaller ships at a later date.

We were assured that they would not during the referendum. And Portsmouth doesn't have the expertise, so that's a non - starter.

I agree with you it sounds preposterous, but I read this was being suggested by government/defense bigwigs at the start of this week

Whatever else happens, I guarentee that won't come to pass. Extra hulls are for nothing if they aren't capable of surviving a conflict, and given the usual increasing costs of weapon systems per generation, for these ships to remain competitive, they will not be stripped down or cheaper than the rest. There is also headcount and maintenance to take into consideration, you are talking a lot of extra money. The best that can be said of the SDSR is that the Government would like to still build 13, but will only commit, concretely to 8 - the other 5 can be classed as vulnerable and probably the first big ticket item on the chopping block the next time an economic downturn comes around. They won't have any long lead items or project money assigned to them until after the 'ASW' variants are built and therefore easily scrapped. Glen Sannox
The SNP really need to stop putting MP's/MSP's on Radio 4, it's beyond embarrassing. George Kerevan had an absolute mare this morning. This off the back of that balloon Hosie, and that arrogant mug Robertson also making total tits of themselves. Out of their depth, devoid of the ability to answer simple questions and no end of moaning/blaming.

Out of their depth, devoid of the ability to answer simple questions and no end of moaning/blaming. *yawn* When the SNP criticise the sovereign government, it's "moaning/blaming". When Labour do it, it's her majesty's loyal opposition - a necessary democratic holding of the exercise of power to account. Have you ever considered that the government which holds the purse strings is going to be where the buck stops? I guess not - no one must criticise the sovereign UK government, only the devolved Scottish one. That's British nationalism for you - anything or anyone who dares to criticise it is baaaaad! "Beyond embarrassing" is wanting your country to be a region.
