booitsme7
Murray wins 6-1 7-5. Next up for him is Jerzy Janowicz again.
TheScarf
Totally forgot about this match today. Should be a 2-0 win over Janowicz. I don't see him red-lining for a set like he did in Shenzhen.
TheScarf
Currently a set and 5-2 up. Intersting to see Nishikori, Dimitrov and Wawrinka all out this morning.
booitsme7
Good straight sets victory for Murray to set up a match against David Ferrer who is one place below Murray in the race to London. Ferrer won 4-6 7-6 (7-4) 6-4 over Martin Klizan but Klizan served for the match at 6-5 in the second set.
Virtual Insanity
Raonic retires against Monaco, which is a huge boost in terms of Murray's efforts to get to London, now made up at least 45 of the 175 points he needs to on Raonic, a victory over Ferrer would make that 135 and give him an excellent chance of making the O2.
Loki
Yeah a nice welcome boost. Berdych beat his kryptonite Gasquet today, so almost a perfect day for Murray. Berdych plays karlovic tomorrow who is serving like a machine currently, so there might be an upset. Murray leads ferrer 7-1 on hard services, so hopefully he will beat him again. The only loss occurring at the world tour finals and Murray pulled out after that match due to injury. Dimitrov and nishikori both lost today as well. Nishikori was treated medically as well. So raonic, nishikori and Nadal all have lingering injury problems going into the last week's of the season.
Loki
Also to add that Murray has also added the 500 event Valencia to his schedule. The wild card entry has four other contenders in the tournament - Ferrer, Berdych, Nishikori and Cilic. The other contenders all play a much tougher Basel field. Interesting few weeks, especially with the Paris masters now a week earlier.
die hard doonhamer
Nadal knocked out by Lopez. 6-3 7-6
Loki
Lopez beats Nadal in straight sets leaving the bottom half wide open. Berdych looking like he's going to do well in this tournament thanks to a very nice draw. Edited October 8, 2014 by Loki
TheScarf
Yeah he basically has a clear path to the final. I doubt Isner will trouble him if they play. Djokovic/Berdych final IMO.
Nightmare
Looking at the Basel and Valencia fields, Murray has definitely picked the one that gives him the best chance of points. Djokovic currently not included on either - will he pick up a WC for either or take a break?
TheScarf
Ooft. That's a horrendous result.
Tommy Nooka
Is this the worst season of Murrays career? I know he was a bit hot and cold early on but he was still winning a Masters tournament or 2 a year. Can't see Mauresmo lasting much longer as I don't see him getting any worse without a coach.
TheScarf
Since he broke into the top 10 in 2007 unquestionably. Although everyone around him and above him in the rankings have got better and more consistent. He has stayed the same IMO.
The-coo-shed
Berdych with surprise loss to Simon and Ferrer beaten by Djokovic. It is going to be very tight for the race to London. All of Murray close rivals (Raonic and Berdych, Ferrer) are playing next week in the 250 ATP tournaments. Ferrer has taken a wildcard to Stockholm. These small events could be crucial. With Murray's form, he might need to play one of the 250's as well to have a good shot. If not he must do well at Valencia and at Paris. If not, his only hope is that Nadal feels he can't play because of his appendix and Djokovic can't play due to the birth of his son.
Tommy Nooka
There's no real point in Murray making the Tour finals. On current form he'll merely be making up the numbers, might actually be best for him to miss it and concentrate on next season (AO).

I see your point, but the tournament is very good for ranking points. It would make his draw a whole lot easier for the Australian Open. He has the potential to make up ground now as he has no points to defend. The defeat in shanghai put an end to that though!
peasy23
Sadly, I can't see him making London unless one or more of the others succumbs to injury. Even if he gets to the quarters of any of the tourneys he just doesn't seem to have it in him at the moment to take on the other top players.

Djokovic currently not included on either - will he pick up a WC for either or take a break? Novak has fulfilled all his requirements in his commitment contract so he won't compete in either. I would be very surprised to see him take a wild card, especially since Federer isn't playing and now he is the only realistic challenger to the year end number one. Berdych with surprise loss to Simon and Ferrer beaten by Djokovic. It is going to be very tight for the race to London. If he plays in the 250 he will under perform in the 500 and 1000 events. It is in his interest to skip the 250. He has been quite unlucky with his draws, but his poor ranking hinders him. He needs to make the WTF to aid his ranking for next year. He has a chance to win in Valencia, and if he gets a favourable draw in Paris who knows. Ferrer played exceptionally well at times, but was aided by the drop in Murray's first serve %. His erratic ball toss is costing him a lot of first serves. When he serves greater than 60% he wins the sets. He has played well in China, apart from the one match against Ferrer where he has only been beaten by Djokovic recently. There is quite a lot of injury issues currently. Nishikori, Nadal and Raonic all have injury doubts. Djokovic could pull out of any tournaments imminently. He is not as physically fit as he was pre surgery, and that is hindering him. Ferrer easily outlasted him, in comparison with their Miami final last year where Murray ground down Ferrer with his physical fitness. I will stick my neck out and say he will make it to the O2 finals.
