Who cares if he happens to be ranked number one at this particular time period? Tennis, like any sport, is about winning trophies not momentarily finding yourself at the top of a rankings system.

Djokovic is the best player in the world. He is now and he will always be remembered as a far superior tennis player to Murray.

It's is absolute ridiculous the level of celebration because he finds himself at number one.

Belgium were number one in the FIFA world rankings a few months ago- have they ever at any point in their history been the best team in the world?? Have they fvck! What do you think they'd rather have? A euros/World Cup win? Or be able to say they've topped the world rankings momentarily.

Right now, Murray is absolutely a superior player to Djokovic, and only a troll or someone who doesn't really know what they're talking about would state otherwise.

The comparison with the FIFA rankings is nonsense as well. Tennis rankings actually make sense, for a start.

Aye and Murray isn't a blatant drug cheat either!

The level of consistency it takes to make that achievement makes the achievement worth celebrating. It's not rocket science.

Of course, this is probably just the "Scotland lol" trolling from a usual suspect.

Ck is mewling because Murray had temerity to hold a different opinion on the referendum. Truly childish stuff.

If winning trophies is all that matters, Djokovic has won one tournament since  June.  In the same time period Murray has won Queens, Wimbledon, Olympics, Beijing, Shanghai, Vienna and will more than likely win Paris tomorrow.

I often agree with you but I think you've dropped a bollock here.  Andy as the world's highest ranking tennis player is a fantastic achievement - especially as the 2nd oldest to achieve it.

Erm. Not really. Possibly up there with the worst bit of comparatives I've ever read. And I've seen the Brexit thread.

You obviously completely missed the bit where Murray has won many, many trophies.

Greatest British sportsman of all time, beyond doubt now.

The only argument against I've heard before was that he was never the best in the world at his sport. Can tick that off now.

Arise, Sir Andy Murray.

Mind when you said he'd never be number one on umpteen occasions, you worm?

To be fair, I always have a meltdown when Murray loses because of my love for the lad.

Aye I did do the bereavement cycle as a piss take once, and it summed up your emotions after a loss.

I think everyone has under estimated what Andy Murray would achieve, and still can achieve in his career.  I thought at one point he'd never win a clay court tournament or be number one.  But there you go, he just gets better and better.

A win tomorrow and a win at the WTF would round off a just about perfect year.

I won't doubt him again, tbh. When you sit back and think about what he's achieved, it makes me feel daft to think I ever did. Even losing to Nishikori at the US Open and the frustrating way it happened - he'd have been only the fourth man ever to reach all four Slam finals in the same year if he'd done it. Practically unprecedented and again, in hindsight, no real surprise given his summer schedule.

Despite how good a career he's already had, he definitely deserves even more. I really hope he has a dominant next two or three years.
