Bully Wee Villa
If he stays injury free and comes back next year, he would surely have a decent chance at being seeded? Likely to avoid the likes of Tsitsipas until at least the third round, then.

That would mean slogging away on the tour for the next 12 months - like he has been since the last Wimbledon with the aim of getting a seeded spot - and he didn’t manage it. He did have a chance this year if he could have had a good run at Queens, but he lost in the first round to De Minaur. Listening to him yesterday he didn’t sound like he had the motivation to put in all the air miles and effort required to get his ranking up that far. He will be 37 the time the next Wimbledon comes around as well, there’s just not many guys over 35 that can compete at the very top level. Nadal, Djokovic and Federer excepted, of course.
sparky88
Ridiculous that they are struggling to complete 3 matches even with a roof on Centre Court. No idea why they don't start earlier.
peasy23
Boulter unsurprisingly finding it very tough against Rybakina, a big step up from the opponents she has beaten recently.
Bully Wee Villa
This hasn't even been a match, sadly.

Loki
This is where Wimbledon starts - all the British jobbers are out and they now have to talk about tennis. Andy does not have a lot of points to defend from now until the end of the year, in fact he has to defend 90 before the US Open. He is about 200 points away from being seeded. There is a grass court tournament in Newport in two weeks(250) , then Washington (500) and then the two Masters (1000). All he needs is one good run in one of them. He can then re-assess at that point and see what he wants. He has already committed to a Chinese tournament later in the year as well. I hope Andy reflects and sees although it was a tough loss, it was a good loss in the grand scheme of things. It takes a World #1 to beat Tsitsipas in Grand Slams this year. Lost to Novak in the final of the Australian, and then to Alcaraz in the QF of the French. I watched the Lehecka match earlier and thought he played really well, Berdych has done really well with him. That was his fifth seed he has beaten in the Slams this year. It will be interesting to see what he can do against Medvedev. I feel sorry for Berdych imagine being good enough to beat Djokovic and Federer on Centre Court to only have to then play Nadal in the final. Roblev Bublik is likely the only match worth watching tomorrow from the Men's side, just because of the randomness of both players, lots of variety, and a high chance for mental breakdowns. It will be interesting to see if Andreeva can follow up her high profile win, she is building quite a resume despite only being 16. Svitolina Azarenka should be a great match, and will be interesting if they will be any needle in the match at all.
Ignoramus
I’m sure the Wimbledon organisers are loving it as Russians and Belarusians start pouring their way into the later stages in the men’s and women singles events
Savage Henry
Anyone been to Wimbledon? Savage Henrietta, having never once expressed an interest in tennis at all, has suggested going. I assume it’s a Glastonbury style clusterfuck? Anyone with experience?
TheScarf
Can tennis players, current and former, stop calling the final of a tournament the ‘finals’. ‘She beat her in the French Open finals.’ It’s singular you fucking idiots.
TheScarf
Another half 8/9 start for Djokovic tonight. They really need to start earlier on the show courts.
peasy23
A monumental arse collapse by Hurkacz at 6-5 up and serving in the tie break, gets a good serve in but then dumps an easy volley into the net, then follows it up with another unforced error. First set Novax. Edited July 9, 2023 by peasy23
Lex
What a chance for Hurkacz to go one set up. 6-3 up in the tie break, couldn’t take any of this three set points, arse just collapsed . Djokovic rings off five points in a row to win it 8-6. This one won’t be finished before the curfew, the serving has been superb so far.

peasy23
Hurkacz again serving at 5-4 up in the tiebreak and hits 2 of his worst shots of the night.

Lex
Got to feel for Hurkacz there, he played two of the best sets of his life, up until the last few points. Served over 80% first serves and his first serve must average over 125mph and he took the lead in both tie breaks. He’s still 2-0 down and he will go out tomorrow. Watching that reminded me of what I think Roddick said about Djokovic. ‘first he takes your legs, then he takes your soul’
KirkieRR
Yep, he was terrific right up to the close of each tie-break.

This isn't 1981, grass court matches aren't over in 2 hours now because they aren't serve and volley fests. Matches now last over 3 hours regularly, even straight setters, and squeezing 2 men's and 1 women's match in during the 9 hour window is difficult, especially as they have to close the roof. Get all courts starting at 12. I watched the end of the Azarenka/Svitolina match just to see what would happen. Azarenka waved at Svitolina, who immediately put her racket up at her in acknowledgement, and that was it. I don't think the crowd saw that and booed Azarenka off, when it was well documented before hand that there wouldn't be a handshake at the end of the match. Azarenka was spot on in her press conference, she respected Svitolina's decision, still acknowledged each other at the end, and reckoned by that time of night all the crowd were pissed and didn't know what was going on.
