btb Posted Friday at 12:41 Share Posted Friday at 12:41 (edited) Amusing to see right wing pundits/media organizations going down the "slippery slope" road over the UK negotiating a sovereignty lease deal with Mauritius for the Chagos Islands. With the US retaining control of the military airbase on Diego Garcia has anything significant changed? BFTD Posted Friday at 19:11 Share Posted Friday at 19:11 It's always amusing when the Heil has to break out the leading-paragraph headline to spoon-feed why they want the reader to be outraged by the actual headline. The final ever issue will likely have a 500-word full-page headline in BOLD ALL CAPS as it nosedives screaming into the land of online celebrity gossip and scud pics.
btb Posted Friday at 20:47 Share Posted Friday at 20:47 Came across this in an article Quote The sun will quite literally set on the British Empire for the first time in 200 years. The UK government confirmed yesterday they are handing over its control of the Chagos Islands in the Indian Ocean to Mauritius after taking it over and transforming the land into a military base in 1973. This means British territories are no longer so spread across the globe, and the phrase ‘the sun never sets on the British Empire’ is no longer true. I hope y'all will join me in shedding a few manly tears.
HibeeJibee Posted Friday at 21:16 Share Posted Friday at 21:16 Friday 21st March, supposedly, if BIOT is transferred by then... but seemingly it may be incorrect. Would be gap between Pitcairn and British Cyprus; but it may still be light in British Antarctica (source being cited is taking daylight per the South Pole where it eventually becomes dark all day long for a time - but presumably it remains light for longer in the parts nearer South America).
