Motherwell FC - A Thread For All Seasons

Recommended Posts

Would have been happy to see KVV back but not heartbroken he hasn't.

We saw him hit an extremely ridiculous purple patch, sold him for a decent amount. I'd be amazed if he'd come back and performed anywhere near close to previous season.

I'd be have expecting the huffy, very inconsistent KVV that we had for a good chunk of his time here.

There's Monty's replacement (until Nixon makes his Twitter private again).

This is kind of where I am as well.

Genuinely feel for the poor fuckers we announce today, don't read social media lads!

I'm soooooooo glad that I ditched twitter some time ago. I am also happy that the twitter weirdos are up in arms and getting way too wound up.

On KVV. Fair play if we are sticking with our budget and principles etc, and not letting sentimentality get in the way of business decisions. I would love to have him back, but if other clubs are willing to pay more than us that's their call.

Thats kinda where I am. I’d be absolutely fucking delighted if we signed him, like properly excited, but I canny help feel there’s a big reason it’s us, St Mirren and Killie leading the chase.

If reports from Groningen are correct, he’s not fit. Van Veen himself put much his success last season down to being the fittest he’d ever been. There’s a problem right away that’s gonna take a wee whole to resolve. Then it’s a simple question of whether he’s in the mood or not. I wonder if the club haven’t pushed the boat out for those reasons.

Look I agree with anyone saying we should not break the bank for KVV. I do.  If our rivals are prepared to throw silly money at Groningen then so be it. But I genuinely find it baffling that they can blow us out of the water unless our bid or wages offer was low in the 1st instance.

We are in the market for a number 1 striker and a guy who scored in each of his last dozen or so games for us is apparently available.  Bair can cope until he is match fit. Lets face it has anyways our last two games. So can Jack Vale assuming he is not being recalled after 1 day 😂.

He may not turn out to be as good as he was.  But this will be a right kick in the haw maws for sure.

Who knows but you also don't know what 'this' is...if we were even remotely in the game at what, 2-2.5k a week? That means they're offering 4-5k a week, presumably because it means top six and European riches in return.

And fair play to them, that's their risk/reward. But seriously, from where we are in our circumstances, we are more than capable of staying up without spending that kind of money on a loan, whoever it is.

I appreciate I'm seemingly the only one saying this but if the bidding is there then I'm glad we're out.

Edit - see there's a couple others on the sanity bus, so not just me!

I get that but he’s surely worth what Biereth, Shaw and Wilkinson were on plus a wee bit more?

I know it doesn’t work like that but have St Mirren seriously offered £6k plus a week? Where are they getting that?

Or they could be overspending betting on a high league finish given Aberdeen's problems and Hibs being very mediocre. Look what Utd did a couple of windows back with Tony Watt- they completely blew us out the water there but did so in the midst of a huge operating loss which their owner was presumably underwriting.

In Scottish football, it's been seen countless times (with us being a great example under Boyle) that what's spent is no guide to what is actually affordable.

KVV of the second half of last season would be a great signing for anyone in the league (Old Firm included) but we've seen what he offers (or doesn't offer more like) when he's half-fit and half-arsed.

Clubs like Aberdeen, Hearts, Hibs and even Dundee United will beat us to players 9 times out of 10 but to be "blown out the water" by Killie and fucking St Mirren is a major concern.

People are being way too level headed about Kevin Van Veen going to St Mirren.

Outrage is welcome and encouraged, Celtic fans know how to kick up a fuss we should get the metal sharks outside Fir Park.

I still maintain that KVV Will turn up and hugely disappoint whoever signs him. He was immense last season but odds are slim on him repeating it. Perhaps we're best with the memories.

Maybe the board were thinking of the returning hero we signed precisely a year ago and were thinking the same.

Maybe I'm completely wrong but I don't think it's odd at all.

Last January we gambled massively on spending money we didn't have because we were fucked. It worked, which was great, but we're obviously paying for it now.

This year we're not fucked... you look at what KVV will cost and say nah, we're not spending that to finish ninth at best, someone else will keep us safe for half price and not screw 24/25 before it's started.

St Mirren in contrast blew Europe last year and have seen their good start stall a bit this season. They conclude it's now or never so dig deep on a gamble.

Killie I admit I don't understand given their squad and that they're on the up...seems a strange roll of the dice at the apparent price for them.

We have 4.5 months left of the season.  Say £6k per week x 18 = £108,000

I doubt even if St Mirren have offered that amount.

We are still very much in a relegation battle last I checked.

Is it worth spending an extra £30-40k to ensure top 6 v avoiding relegation.  That is the question.  Even if we finish 1 more place up the league that is an extra £65k.

I hope the club know what they are doing.  I guess it all depends what other striker we have lined up if as it seems KVV is not happening.

Motherwell are out of the running to sign Kevin van Veen after being 'blown out of the water' by Premiership giants St Mirren.

It’s a evil ploy by Keith Lasley to piss off all the Motherwell fans who used to boo him!
