Stranraer FC 2016/17

Recommended Posts

A lot can be said for the highest paying part time teams having a chance of having better players than the low end full time teams. Especially this time of year when players switch from full time to part time.

But where Airdrie and Livi have a chance is possibly getting better quality loan players and in January they can pick up quality full time players who are not getting a game at their club for whatever reason and they can slot in and make a helluva difference.

We've so far only got a squad of 19, probably need a few more when the season starts, loans will happen no doubt. Very happy with what we've got though and look forward to all kicking off. It will be a tough league no doubt and it would be foolish to write off anyone.

As for someone bank rolling us. Haha. We wish. We've had the Rangers pound, 2 live home games on sky, full house v Celtic, away games at Hibs, playoffs extend the season and great cup runs which pay a pretty penny also. We've also got a board which have not been stupid but also have a good commercial brain. The crowds might not be that high but the sponsorship and hospitality on match days must make a fair few bob and count for a good chunk of the attendance.

Those questioning where the cash is coming from should maybe have a look closer to home and wonder where their own cash is going

The Airdrie and Livingston sides are awful for full time.

Stranraer or Alloa are far stronger one of them will win it.

We don't have a lot of experience. However we have potentially the best fwd line in the league in Ryan and Russell. The young players we have who will come in and out the team are more than good enough though they might not be ready to play regular first team football. I fancy livvy Airdrie Peterhead and alloa.

Stranraer are a well run club they will not be paying out big wages They nearly went bust a few seasons ago so they will not let that happen again.

Stanraer don,t even own Stair Park the local council does.

They made a lot of money out of the Celtic cup game live Sky T.V. etc.

Think Nade was waiting for a full time team to sign him but none would take the gamble with his fitness so had to take up Stanraer offer.

£200 -250  a week will be Stanraer top wage

I could definitely see Christian Nade going to Stranraer for 10 grand a year.

Probably good business. Goals Nade scores wins us the league and four trophies then the money is made back with some interest. Simple.

Folk on here forgetting that we've had 2 live sky cup games in past 18 months. That's a helluva a lot of bonus income. We'll also benefit hugely from the attendance at Ibrox in a couple of weeks, 38% of say 25000 I'd guess. Think those factors alone pretty much account for why we can compete with any part time team while as mentioned above many players now would rather earn a good part time wage alongside a full time normal job rather than earn less by taking the risk of full time football at say an Airdrie or Livingston at our level or the likes of Morton above us. It's not Rocket science

These things have happened and apply to a whole load of other clubs as well...

Favourites for the league imo. Probably favourites for next years Championship as well.

With the amount of money they're throwing around, anything other than promotion would have to be seen as a considerable disappointment.

Only problem is, sooner or later a big club is going to come in for their book keeper. Then it's all over for Stranraer.

Stranraer are keeping within their budget, and trying to field the best team possible without stretching budget, what's wrong with that ?.should that not be the route for all teams?.

There's nothing wrong with it, if you've got a budget of 50 million thanks to your good book keeper fire on and spend it just don't get huffy when people notice
