Wait how can Colt teams be an English idea?   It's been part of European football for decades.  It has also been part of lower league or regional cup football for decades too as Las Palmas B won the Spanish version of the Challenge Cup back in 1994.

Because coincidentally Colt teams will play in the Johnstones Paint Trophy this season, or the EFL trophy as its been renamed. There's protests down there at lower league clubs and not every EPL club has chosen to participate.

The English one is probably a bigger joke than ours. It would be like if they announced the Irn-Bru Cup and then Celtic, Rangers, Aberdeen and Hearts said their youth teams wouldn't be taking part.

They're also worrying about the prospect of two development teams reaching the final. DON'T INVITE THEM IN THE FIRST PLACE THEN.

Outside of this forum, no one is about to care about this tournament full stop.

Colt teams won't be coming into the league anytime soon, there's absolutely no desire for it at any level.

There is no particular desire for it though. Which is why it hasn't happened and nobody is suggesting it. The whole "won't somebody think of the children" mewling about Colt teams being a stepping stone for League acceptance reminds me a lot about the whole "we can't have a GB team at the Olympics or FIFA will make us have a single GB team in real football". It was tosh then and it's tosh now.

Today we have the SFA's Performance Director advocating colt teams in the league...
