Fine, if Strachan decided not to play him because he felt the game required experience. But could someone please explain to me, if having made that judgement, why would you not put him on the bench as a sub. I've defended Strachan on here before, and often find the furore around him ridiculous. But this is indefensible. Dropping him isn't, but leaving him out completely is. He's screwed the pooch here.

He has the same number of caps than both Paterson and McGinn combined, so the whole 'lack of experience' bullshit was a clear lie from Strachan. As others have said, he could easily have had him on the bench, something Strachan himself has done before with other players to give them 'experience'.
babu
It's difficult to judge what attitudes prevail among which players. & between individuals and manager. & what are real reasons for dropping individuals. Jeeze ,I've worked with people who are just grown up babies, we all have.
Tommy Nooka
They've clearly had a falling out, the lad is only 19 so he will make mistakes he'll hopefully learn from and Strachan is supposed to be old enough to understand this. Despite that he has been a dick to a teenage lad and tried to make a 'statement', should have been on the bench at least even if he didn't intend to play him. Scotland fans finally realising how much of a c**t GS actually is! He seems to enjoy rubbing people up the wrong way, he's an uppity wee shite. At least one Celtic fan understood this many many years ago. Edited October 12, 2016 by Tommy Nooka

And therein lies the issue, I suspect.

I can't imagine Strachan will still be the Scotland manager by the weekend. Yup, it was a big 'f**k you' to the fans.
Frankie S
This is so reminiscent of Levein/Fletcher: an increasingly beleaguered manager, who knows he is losing the support of the players, the supporters, and sections of the press, scapegoating a player in an attempt to reassert his authority. It is the action of a man who realises that he is increasingly out of his depth, in a job that he no longer has much enthusiasm for, managing a group of players that he has little confidence in. I feel a little sorry for Strachan to be honest, the players at his disposal are limited, but he has his favourites and appears to cast certain players, who could be of use to him, into the wilderness for no apparent reason. Wilful perversity seems to have deprived him of the services of Bardsley, McCormack, Cairney and others, and now Burke. His days are numbered and he knows it. He's always had a spiky, belligerent, uncompromising streak, but in his recent interviews he has looked like a man at the end of this tether. Better to get rid of him now, for his own good.

Bain Palmer - Wilson - Cooper - Shinnie Phillips - Bridcutt - Cairney - Ritchie Rhodes - Griffiths

John Lambies Doos
Have you at least got Burke on the bench in your squad? Nope cause he's 19. Far too inexperienced when compared to a team of 23-27yr olds

Myview
At present very pacey. However inexperienced, runs in straight lines, poor touch, doesn't drop a shoulder and doesn't have a trick to go past defenders. Not convinced he can finish under pressure. Hey but he is only 19. Strachan to leave him out of the squad after starting him v Malta and Lithuania suggests there must be a story behind the omission. He listed two left backs on the bench.
RandomGuy.
Why do people keep bringing up him putting two goalkeepers or two left backs on the bench?
