I’m wondering how long it will be before Jacob Smug Mogg starts using the term ‘Fake News’ when discussing Brexit.

Odds on favourite for next Tory leader

Not odds on but favourite right enough. What a shower of reprobates.

"With the referendum and with the EU, the Treasury has gone back to making forecasts.

"It was politically advantageous for them in the past. It is the same now.

"So yes, I do think they are fiddling the figures"

Hmmm, what did Jacob think about the Treasury forecasts on Scottish independence?

Here's an eloquent, well thought out contribution to a Commons debate about some of the potential dangers of  poorly managed referendums:

"Referendums should be held when the electorate are in the best possible position to make a judgement. They should be held when people can view all the arguments for and against and when those arguments have been rigorously tested. In short, referendums should be held when people know exactly what they are getting. So legislation should be debated by Members of Parliament on the Floor of the House, and then put to the electorate for the voters to judge.

We should not ask people to vote on a blank sheet of paper and tell them to trust us to fill in the details afterwards. For referendums to be fair and compatible with our parliamentary process, we need the electors to be as well informed as possible and to know exactly what they are voting for. Referendums need to be treated as an addition to the parliamentary process, not as a substitute for it.

What is being said to them, however, is you vote, and we'll decide what sort of region you will have.

As it stands, the Bill is an affront to those principles. It asks people to vote for proposals that are unspecified, untried and untested."

Who was this thoughtful MP I hear you ask?

If he takes over from May and becomes PM without an election every Scot who voted NO will deserve a hard slap in the puss.

Perhaps he had in mind the Irish rejection of a revised Lisbon Treaty in 2008 (53%) only for the electorate to be asked to reconsider less than 18 months later. The YES vote then secured a convincing 67% of the ballot. That’s some swing in such a short time span. How was this remarkable turnabout achieved and could the lessons learned be applied elsewhere?

What a good idea!

The next time, ICT are playing away to Queen of the South, I will go to the game and then spend the evening at the Dumfries Opera House.
It will be great.

Why does anyone seem surprised that some Tories might be plotting to replace Theresa May?

It is like a game of chess.

Not only are they considering who to replace her with, but they are considering the replacement for the replacement and so on.

Moggs, then Johnson, then Gove.
No.  Moggs then Fox then Johnson.
No.  Davis then Johnson then Moggs.

Only three on your list?  That's not much forward planning!
