Big win for those Scottish politicians that brought the case and a kick in the teeth for those who tried to stop them. Another option for Parliament that will expose the falseness of the binary option that May is arguing. Not that they'll get any credit for it.

Guest
13 hours ago, Detournement said: No but it made me think that it would be simpler to create a more equitable society within the UK than an independent Scotland. I have also lost a bit of faith in Scotland being more receptive to socialism than the rest of the UK. It probably still is but the difference is getting smaller with every year that passes. I just don't buy this at all, in fact if this was the case there would be an overwhelming majority for the Tories in Scotland and as we know they only have real support in the heartlands of the wealthy. Furthermore, the Tax changes instituted by the Scottish Government confirm that we have more of an appetite for equality and helping out the poorest in society compared with our English cousins and of course the fact that we are a much smaller and socially tighter country than the UK generally, would mean that if any form of socialism was likely to occur on these islands then it would most likely be in Scotland as an independent nation. As for your earlier point of people expecting a change "just to happen", well, throughout history the peasants always reach a breaking point when their wealthy masters overstep the mark and quite frankly I reckon we're hurtling at a great rate of knots towards that point and I don't just mean in this country.............

NotThePars
Sajid Javid will, for his whole political life, have had to sit politely as paki jokes are made followed up with 'not you obviously you're alright hahaha' by tories in wingback chairs in Mayfair clubs. To be accepted into a plainly racist party he has to overcompensate. He might well dislike it internally, but he is committed, which is in a sense almost worse than if he genuinely did hold these views. He didn’t have to become a Tory.

Jeff Venom
He didn’t have to become a Tory.I had to laugh at him coming out with he'd been bullied at school due to his ethnicity and so sympathised with the Syrian lad who has dealt with some horrific stuff recently. Im sure the irony of his party mates profiteering off of war and instability in other countries while stoking the prejudices of racists and xenophobes for political gain here hasn't passed him by.

If we seek to rejoin we won’t get that. It will be interesting to see the interpretation on unilateral withdrawal if Article 50 is first extended which seems to becoming a popular idea. Rebate would be up for renegotiation anyway, end of budget is 2020 IIRC. It's a bit unfair so I think EU leaders will be pissed off about it so I could see a second campaign being fought on this issue and the same sort of lies being repeated in terms of this.
