That's never going to work though. As long as there is time on the clock MPs and other interested parties will try to use that time to achieve their goals.

I really disagree. We've just got lunatics in charge of the asylum.

May was going about with her red lines rhetoric and fist shaking about no deal being better than a bad deal right from the start. A good PM would have been looking well ahead, everyone at the time knew that she was boxing herself in and was going to cause disappointment very early on.

Of course, parties will suit their own interests but the options on the table now are the ones we have always had and didn't appear overnight - talking about them would have meant the opposition would have been forced to engage with the process early on.

That was just rhetoric for the election and an attempt to bluff the EU.

She is terrified of No Deal.

On the issue of Euro elections if a long extension happens, when exactly are parties going to be able to choose candidates for them?

They probably already have done. Or they should have done anyway.

It went on well past the election though. Fair enough, she maybe thought she could get a mega majority but the realities were clear for a while and you'd need to be a complete imbecile to think that it was a great negotiation tactic.

She's was never vetted for the job and was really unqualified for it. Osborne et al wanted her punted as Home Secretary for years as she was incompetent at that level. She was only kept on as one of the shite absorbers and a neutral front runner to be swept aside with ease when the leadership backed their horse but their horses were put down after the referendum.

I think that was the only politically adept move she's made. Shafted Corbyn and the ERG (maybe) at the same time. Nicking their phones was masterful, first time for ages Cabinet hasn't been tweeted live. Might undermine support for the bill tomorrow for Parliamentary control too.
Not so sure - Corbyn goes on - they talk - she doesn't shift - he just walks out and tells everyone she is an intransigent moron (okay perhaps a bit more diplomatic but you get my drift).

It's not as if people won't believe him as she hasn't shifted in any previous meeting with opposition politicians. In fact she hasn't shifted in meetings with her own party's remainers.

She is basically at the level of a County Councillor in Surrey or somewhere like that, no one in UK politics has ever been promoted so far above their level as TM.

Incredibly though the whole thing could now be sorted by the end of next week (this stage of it anyway), unless Corbyn fails on the CU.

Think the CU obsession is down to it being the option which only lost by 3 votes second time around. Appears to be the only area which is drawing support from across the house. Agree that if the UK stays in a CU we might as well have full membership as that involves at least taking part in decision making.

Just out of interest, is there anything else going on in the Commons these days  apart from Brexit?

I mean, they are supposed to be running a country. Are any other matters being debated?   Maybe Health,  Housing , Transport,  Universal Credit,  whatever?

You need to upload a picture of your passport or driver's license to look at porn now.

What’s the obsession with a customs union now?

Be as well just staying in with full membership.

I just can't see a proper membership of The Customs Union, I just can't see her going with anything that involves free movement, it could be carnage for her party if she reneges on it now.

She's challenged him to accept the result of the winning indicative vote, if he will, she will. That was the clever bit. She must have fix in mind.

Freedom of movement is unpopular. Freedom of capital is so unpopular we aren't allowed to talk about it. Freedom of services doesn't really exist because you can't have an account in Surrey being undercut by one in Gdansk.

Freedom of goods within the bloc has no real downsides.

A good PM would have stood up to the small band of hard Brexiters and told them to do one.

By instantly ruling out CU/SM she made a rod for her own back.

I have absolutely no sympathy.

Especially as restricting freedom of movement is probably the only bit of Brexit she's actually on board with.

Shit floats to the top though . . .

If that's the case I can see her trying to rig the indicative votes to get the one that she wants. Watch the cabinet ministers suddenly being allowed to vote.

She could sell the existing rules restricting FOM as a new deal she's screwed out of the EU. It was her choice not to impose them as Home Secretary and PM.
