vikingTON
Club football is vastly, effortlessly superior to international football. Let's hope that they follow through their stance by driving it into a Tennents' Sixes level of novelty, nostalgia competition.

accies1874
Fucking embarrassing. Diluting the quality even more, but hey-ho... more money to the scumbags in charge. 16 groups of
Latino Lover
disappointing, quality will undoubtedly dip as they will look to add more African and Asian countries. Already looking forward to inevitable controversy over teams who play last in initial group stage having convenient draws.
Astro
FIFA Officials: "Nah, a 48 team tournament sounds shite. 32 teams is ideal and its been great since we intoduced it."Infantini: "But we'll make loads more cash. And I'll make sure you all get a healthy cut."FIFA Officials: "WHERE DO WE SIGN?!?!"
Bully Wee Villa
I don't like the new Group Stage. You can guarantee they'll arrange it so the seeded sides have a rest on matchday two, while the others have back to back matches. That said, I agree with expansion in principal. Football is easily a big enough sport to accommodate 48 teams at its top tournament, and I like watching diddy nations rather than just the same old teams every tournament. While the Group Stage looks shite, they have, effectively, doubled the knockout stage which should provide excitement. Going to be a pain in the arse getting time off work for all the games, mind. Latino Lover
I don't have a problem with the expansion but it's going to be 1982 all over again with the final group game played with those teams at an advantage. Will miss the straightforward group stage, probably end up with a load of shit fests in the ko stages now with so many worse teams at that point. Makes it trickier to host as well. Moo
So what continents are getting more teams or has that not been said yet? I'm sure I read somewhere that African teams are going from 5 to 9 at the finals.
Latino Lover
Will definitely be Africa and Asia who do best. Seen that the Americas may merge qualifying, doesn't seem much point now.

Bully Wee Villa
Africa and CONCACAF getting 9 and 6.5 respectively is a joke Where have you got these figures from? I'd be happy enough with Africa getting nine places. CONCACAF is a bit shit though.

Bully Wee Villa
Cheers. I doubt any of the half places will remain. If I was gonna guess:Host: 1Europe: 15Africa: 10Asia: 9North America: 6South America: 6Oceania: 1Reduce Africa to 9 if it's co-hosted.
SpoonTon
I like the idea. I don't think it will hugely dilute the quality, because there isn't much at all between many of the qualifiers and those who just miss out. I'm concerned about fairness aspects of the group stage though.
lonewolfie
Utter shambles. FIFA at its best. Rubbish. End of the World Cup - look how shite the last Euros were.
lanky_ffc
The World Cup will still be harder to qualify for than the Euros, as there's no way our current allocation of 13 will be increased to anywhere near 24; that would be half the tournament!
