Strachan is one game shy of winning double the number of games Vogts did, almost double the win %. Strachan improved us massively when he first came in. In terms of win% he has the third best record ever of people who have managed more than 10 games. Vogts took us to our lowest ever position in the rankings and had us drawing with Moldova, Faroe Islands, New Zealand and getting destroyed by Hungary, Wales and South Korea. That group was woeful. Iceland, Lithuania and Faroe Islands were all dreadful teams. Germany were terrible as well and got pumped out of the next Euros at the group stage without winning a game in a group that contained Latvia. Agree with this. There's always such massive revisionism in these cases. It's always "this guy is the worst we've ever had" and "anyone could do better than him" and, worryingly " you could take someone from a Public park and they couldn't do any worse than Strachan really" (cheers Troops). All of those statements are ridiculous. He's far from the worst manager we've ever had - I'd put Vogts, Burley and, lest we forget, Craig Fucking Levein ahead of him in this sense. Does it mean he's been great? No. There's shades of grey in between amazing and shite. He's very much one of those disappointing shades of grey. Tulloch Gorum
Re: not having good enough players... right, we don't have a Bale, or a Messi, or a Lewandowski, but we all know that. We still need to play the game. A team devoid of world-class superstars should still be able to beat feckin Lithuania at home.

We don't have great players but equally they aren't all A-league cloggers either. They are all capable enough without being superstars - we should be able to fashion them into a fairly well organized side if nothing else. We miss even that at the moment. They've definitely not got a better squad than us. Don't think they have a better squad but their a damn sight better organised. And show a whole lot more heart than the horror shows that have been our last 2 performances ! Weer in dream land if we think strachans going to give up his job so easily will take a nice little pay off for him to sling his hook. Horrible arrogant and obnoxious little p***k he has become ! Aladdin
A dream team of Jimmy Calderwood and Rowan Alexander. In all seriousness, Lambert, McLeish and all the similar Scottish failures should be nowhere near the job if we want to progress. Even Moyes is now tainted by his record of the last couple of years. As people have said, Alex Neil is about the only Scottish manager who would have the ability to do something different and he doesnt look like he's going anywhere. I would be in favour of a foreigner getting it. LVG, Hiddink are surely too expensive and would laugh at us for even asking but we've at least got to try and get someone with a proven record in. Domestic football -------> International football. Weirdo. Subjectively because he's going to leave anyway – if Saints stay top four, surely someone will go for him. I'd rather see him go to Scotland than an English team. Objectively, I think he's a decent shout for the national team.
Officer Barbrady
We're surely not going to fire random job requests around Europe in the hope that one says 'aye'? This is precisely the problem. On the other thread, someone mentions, correctly, that Strachan was the unanimous fans' choice. On that basis, the fans ought to never get a say again. They get too much involvement as it is, but beside the point. Every foreigner who outlines the simple changes required to nurture quality players with the athleticism to go with it, is laughed at and mocked. Its fair to say that senior players will probably share this attitude, given that it will seem like an attack on their lifestyle, unlike Uncle Gordon who stands up for them at every turn. Tattoos, Headphones, and Mohicans have gotten it from their glorious leader this week too.....someone with their head not stuck in 1975 would be most welcome. The boat needs pushed out here, not just financially. Principled, proven, and capable of delivering a message are pre requisites over whether he likes four or three at the back, target man or wingers, or wants to be the players' best mate. Fucked if i know who, though.

Officer Barbrady
Well, in that case, its either fight or flight from the SFA to try and get the best man possible. They are not short of a few bob, but even at that, the Scottish fan has proven that he is prepared to do what he can to support his team......if Trappatoni-esque wages are a requirement, then simply that's what we need to do. Conversely, egomaniacs arent confined to the boardrooms of Atletico, Chelsea or AC Milan. Middling to mediocre clubs like Watford, Villa, Newcastle, even Blackburn, Leeds, Wolves, Forest etc are garnering a reputation for managers on huge salaries simply being hired as a face, with zero genuine power to the man in the firing line.....offering the position as a canvas for carte blanche, for the right man and the right price, might square things up a bit. Not sure if we should actually tell the new guy about any of the players though for the first couple of months.....
