Blootoon87
Could someone explain in layman's terms the significance of Trump saying Jerusalem is the capital, and what he plans to get from it?

(AFAIK) Geographically it makes the two state solution impossible as the border would pass through Jerusalem. And some hefty Islamic sites are in East Jerusalem. It also 'grants' a lot of disputed territory to the Israelis. Not sure what he gets from it exactly, but he's a fucking mentalist that doesn't seem to give two shits about the human consequence of his actions.

Israel occupied a large part of Jerusalem in the 6 day war, it is thus occupied territory under international law, not the territory legally recognised as Israeli by the rest of the world. By keeping the embassy in Tel Aviv the US was able to not recognise the Israeli occupation of the West Bank while being able to engage with Israel politically. By ditching this he has endorsed the Israeli claim to the full of Jerusalem thus angered most Arabs and Muslims, broken the status quo in US politics of being pro Israel but not endorsing their 1967 conquests and signalled a very major strategic shift from his Arab partners, although I doubt he understands this.

I will give you my take for the third time on what he is trying to 'get from it' 1. Trump is the master of deflection. 2. The Russia stuff is getting more real and he wants something that will divert from it. 3. This will divert from it. 4. He gets a lot of support from his own fuckwit backers when he bangs the 'Muslim extremist' drum. 5. This will certainly provoke reaction which he will then be able to display as 'Muslim extremism'. 6. Unlike other distractions the blowback from this will last for months so longer term 'benefits'. So far there is not one other country or leader that has come out in support of Trump on this shocking decision.

Wee-Bey
Whilst the US have always backed Israel, it's now going to be virtually impossible for them to act as an honest (lol) broker in any future peace talks.

He's killing off any idea of America pretending to be a neutral actor between Israel and the Palestinians. West Jerusalem is basically accepted as Israeli, East Jerusalem as Palestinian but currently and illegally occupied by Israel. He's ignored countless UN resolutions and handed illegally occupied territory to Israel. What he plans to get from it? Support from the evangelical right in the US and the love of his daughter and son in law. God knows why. Absolutely no positives for the Middle East, and imo it will leave Israel even more isolated. Being Trump's only friend might not be a good thing. Edited December 6, 2017 by welshbairn too many "basically's"

Israel is wiping out any prospect of a Palestinian State by confiscating land and building new settlements in East Jerusalem and the West Bank, every day. What are the Palestinian Authority doing about wiping out Israel?
topcat(The most tip top)
What peace talks? How can there be peace talks when the Palestinian Athority want to wipe out Israel. Isn’t that one of the reasons why peace talk would be a good thing to have? You can’t have peace talks with someone who bears you no ill will. It’s in the nature of peace talks that you speak to people you severely dislike and who really don’t like you very much either.

Or, to put it another way, how can there be peace talks when the Israeli's continue to occupy and steal Palestinian land and keep them under apartheid ? And by 'Palestinian Athority' I assume you mean Hamas ?
DeeTillEhDeh
http://edition.cnn.com/2017/12/05/politics/trump-abbas-us-embassy-jerusalem/index.html I cannot see any other reason for this other than deflection. A stupid, dangerous, incendiary, provocative move simply to take attention off his other self created problems. What a despicable c**t he is. I wonder what input, if any, Tillerson has had to this. It's an absolutely mental decision.

I think that ship sailed a while ago The idea that the current administration could be viewed as an honest anything is dead They wouldn’t be trusted to arbitrate between New Zealand and Australia never mind a gig as tough as this

The great David Horowitz is good at exposing the Muslim Students Associations that have infiltrated North American educational institutions, for example. This longer one with multiple students and a psychotic lecturer is a fascinating insight for the layman:
