Trump's going to do something utterly insane and cause us all to die a horrible death, isn't he?

I hope we survive if in part because the biographies and autobiographies of these years are going to be fascinating reading. Even a Cracked article like this is hella interesting. http://www.cracked.com/article_24907_7-secret-and-stupid-rules-working-president-trump.html

So in the last few weeks Trump has accused Qatar of supporting terrorism then sold them weapons, told Iran a terror attack in Tehran was their own fault, shot down a Syrian plane over their own territory, outraged Germany and others in Europe whose energy security is affected by more proposed Russian sanctions, and now in a double whammy imposed sanctions on China too and announced a $1.4 billion arms deal with Taiwan.

We're all going to die.

No doubt Trump will ease worries by bro-lovin Putin and fat shaming Merkel at the G20. Hopefully his good cop/bad cop thing with the South Koreans might work with NK. My biggest concern is him taking sides in the Sunni/Shia civil war, and isolating the only country keeping dialogue alive: Qatar.

P.S. Saudi Arabia’s New Crown Prince Is a Bumbling Hothead. Trump Needs to Treat Him Like One.

It's quite an achievement that diplomatic relations with just about everyone, ally and adversary, have worsened under Trump. The two extremely worrying exceptions being Saudi Arabia and Israel. It will be interesting to see what happens in a couple of days when Qatar's deadline passes for meeting the Saudi demands. So many potential triggers for a proper meltdown over there.

He really is an idiot isn't he. I've been astounded at how impetuous and cack handed he has been. I thought pre election he was just rabble rousing and would calm down once he got into office.

He set the bar low pre election and has plummeted to new depths. I never thought I'd see the day the POTUS was slagging off a tv presenter about a facelift. The bigger worry is the people he has surrounded himself with are far too inexperienced and sycophantic to temper his childish whims.

Although Swampy/Yank Mike etc used to annoy me tremendously, it would be great to have one of them back to give a rational argument on the American healthcare system and how to sort it. It seems like pragmatism (a thing that Americans used to be proud of with their "can do" philosophy) has gone out the window, and there's a stalemate between "If you ain't got the money you die" and "Boob jobs are on us!". The point of insurance is normally to share the risk out amongst everyone, so if shit happens you're covered, but you're premium is fairly low as most payers don't need a big pay out. The Republicans seem to want a system where nobody has to pay anything until they get old or sick, and then they have to pay a third of their income, minimum.

I thought YankMike was now that thekorean poster who has appeared.

As much as people don't like Trump, Mitch McConnell makes him look like Mother Theresa.
Imagine hating Obama so much that you are willing to spend millions of dollars and allow people to die just to back out his ideas.

Whatever happened to banana? Although not many agreed with him on here I thought he contributed to the debate. Decent poster on the Utd threads too.

My sister and her husband moved to New York recently, and the cheapest, worthwhile, healthcare plan for them as a couple is $1300 a month. I can't get my head around how that can be acceptable in a modern, allegedly progressive country. Well actually I can, it's because the industry holds so much power over the government it can never change. The reds and blues can shuffle policy around a bit but it will always remain hugely expensive for everyone while the industry rakes in billions.

I met a couple in Georgia in 2004 whose son had a fairly simple leg break,ie before Obamacare. They weren't insured so it cost them $18,000 and they were still trying to pay it off. With the new Republican plan it would cost a 55-65 year old earning $40,000 about $16,000 every year for insurance, and that's without pre-existing conditions. Idealists like Sanders want a single payer system like they have in Canada, split the risk and premium up between everyone for a basic coverage and pay extra if you want extras like a private room or liposuction. That is radical socialised medicine and beyond the pale. Libertarians like Rand Paul want people to band together and negotiate a better rate from insurance companies, and force medical providers and drug companies to compete on price. That is radical fuckthepoor medicine and beyond the pale. America spends 3 times as much per head as we do on health, but with a lower life expectancy. I think Sanders and Paul could negotiate a better deal between them than the Republican and Democrat leaders.

No idea what happened to banana, but if he stopped banging on about hating women and any men who aren't white I'm sure he'd be welcomed back.

I'm not sure how much worse the new plan would be for everyone else, but my sister & her husband are paying over $15l,000 a year now anyway. If they paid less than that it would be 2 grand to go and see a doctor! It's fucking mental. America is mental. They're in a 1-bed flat in a quiet, non-central part of Brooklyn and their rent is $24,000 a year. US politics and economy are so messed up, I really loathe how they're painted as some kind of model society to aspire to.

$15000 sounds like they are almost footing the insurance bill completely. Is she a contractor or something?
I pay about $1000 a year for my healthcare through work and the coverage is good. I can see a doctor the same day and I get good treatment.

But if you fall into that crack of earning too much to qualify for ObamaCare and your company provides terrible benefits then you will get shat on with unbelievably high premiums.
I wouldn't pay that personally. It's about $130 to see a GP without insurance here in CA.

She's doing some kind of freelance consultancy, and he took a job to 'pay the bills' since they just moved. So yeah it looks like they have to cover everything themselves. I seem to recall Yank Mike saying he paid something like $700/month so comparable to that. They'd almost be better with nothing and as long as they break less than one limb between them a year they'd be better off.

Then you get something like kidney stones and have to sell your flat to pay for it..
