I don’t think anyone wants to expose themselves to a war with Iran but each would happily see the other take them on. Who cares about where Al Qaeda came from and its funding, and the promotion of jihadist ideology around the world. Furthermore, some American companies have funnelled cash through the same company including companies such as AT & T who just happened to have business being discussed before the President at the same time (merger with Time Warner). AT & T reasoned that the payments were to help "understand the Trump administration" which is very believable(!) I don't know if I'd go that far. I just have a feeling that should Iran do anything outside the norms of international relations, the Trump administration is chock full of the sort of people who over-react, massively. Coupled with Israel's increasingly brazen behaviour, I can quite foresee a military incident - or even a series of them - and a lengthy period of increasingly desperate diplomacy, rather than a "hot war".
