Erm no it won't be. Although the convenient omission of 'rescheduling the game to a ridiculous lunchtime kickoff without consultation' as one of the plausible explanations for a poor crowd has been noted.

You two diddies never miss a chance, do you, even on the flimsiest of pretexts.......    When the club deserves criticism (and God knows there have been plenty of times over the years) then fair enough, but this is time it's nonsensical. Every senior game in Scotland today kicks off at either 12.30 or 1.00 - bar Livi v Queens Park at 2.00. It could've been much worse - imagine being a Partick fan facing a Friday night round trip to Dingwall yesterday (imagine being a Partick fan anyway, but that's a different topic).

So, Largston, what "magic" has Rae worked here? Was it only in respect of our start time, or do you hold him responsible for the changes to the entire fixture list?

VT, you may not like or approve of it and that's fair enough, but what precisely is "ridiculous" about a 1.00 kickoff time on a Christmas Eve Saturday? What evidence can you show us for the kickoff time reducing the crowd, and who exactly would you have had the club "consult" about it? Last week's home attendance? The game before that? The 20 or so sourpusses tha lurch around the Morton forum? YOU?

Hope this doesn't turn out to be yet another Scottish football postponement classic :-

9.30 game in no doubt no inspection planned

10.30 concern at Cappielow mounts - unbelievable really how incessant rain and a major storm reported in every news cast can somehow sodden the playing service

11.30 match ref on pitch testing the surface - match now 50:50 at best

12.30 all fans arrived

12.45 match postponed - officials couldn't possibly be criticised for this turn of events - just unfortunate that the last squally shower made the pitch unplayable

Sound familiar?

QoS v Morton Boxing Day 2000 or so?

Except that was a frozen pitch which magically became more frozen under the sun after most of the Morton fans hit Dumfries.

 

Also Forfar v Morton years later and the "it's been passed as playable by a local referee/passer by"

It's ridiculous to shift the time of a match from its routine Saturday slot without good reason, as it serves to confuse or simply pass by potential spectators. That doesn't apply to the core support, but does to those who take a passing interest in watching a game of football or going to Cappielow on a Saturday.. Going by the high-profile efforts of the club to flog match hospitality in the past ten days, they've been doing rather poorly on that front as well.

The switch was unnecessary and will have only negative financial impacts for the club.

Oh and the argument that "every other club is doing so' is laughable: these being the same clubs that decided not to hold an additional fixture on Boxing Day for no valid reason whatsoever. Further proof as if it were needed that Scottish club officials often act against their own commercial interests. And in that ranking of Scottish club incompetence, GMFC has been in the top flight for at least a decade.

Hmm. So you're saying that the "core support" can handle a straightforward change in kickoff time, but those with a "passing interest" in either team somehow have a lower IQ and will be confused by it. And of course there are hundreds of such supporters aren't there, I'm sure you have the proof to back that up.......   right.

The facts are that clubs expect a lower attendance on Christmas Eve, no matter when the game starts. They also know that most fans have lives away from fitba and the Internet and may even be glad of the chance of more time in the afternoon to to attend to other commitments or get to the pub or, for away fans, just get home earlier. Who knows, an early kickoff might even slightly BOOST the attendance (apart, of course, from those few hundred punters with a "passing interest" who are probably wandering about somewhere like Perth looking confused).

So you've  still to provide evidence that the attendance will suffer because of the changed kickoff time, and what makes the early start "ridiculous" apart from your own opinion. You've still to show why this game should be out of line with other early start times. And you've still to tell us what consultation you think the club should have conducted, and with whom.

 

The game starts early.

There is no blame to be allocated.

We've just arrived, so it had better not!

It's raining heavily here at the moment but there have been some dry patches on the drive up. Hopefully some of those pass over soon
