YER SISTERS YER MAW
This looks like it could have potential. Starring James Franco and Maggie Gyllenhaal, The Deuce follows the story of the legalization and subsequent rise of the porn industry in New York’s Times Square from the early ‘70s through the mid-80s. Starts tomorrow night at 10pm on Sky Atlantic.

Ex Machina
Yeah looking forward to this, looking hopeful for another Simon hit after a couple of turkeys. Show Me A Hero was pretty good imo.
BradHorse
Found it this started much earlier in America and I've since seen the first four episodes - it's fucking brilliant. Really has that David Simon/Wire feel to it and the characters are all excellent. Really, really enjoying this show so far.
Boostin' Kev
Enjoyed the pilot. I'm a big fan of the Pelecanos and Price books.

Boostin' Kev
Watched the second episode half cut and didn't enjoy it, might give it another try. Like with Narcos it feels like it could've been done better considering the subject nature. I do prefer less polished/grittier viewing though.
BradHorse
I'm watching it on the American schedule so I've seen 6 of the 8 episodes so far and it's honestly fucking amazing. The cinematography, the acting, the writing... it's all fantastic. Blows my mind that shows like this are barely talked about yet everyone creams their knickers about the latest cardboard cutout Marvel superhero adventure series on Netflix.
wellboy1991
Got to agree BH.Some of the TV Sky Atlantic have produced this year has been outstanding.Big Little Lies, Tin Star and The Deuce the cream of the crops.
BradHorse
Well Sky Atlantic is basically just British HBO right? The Wire, The Sopranos, Game of Thrones, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Oz, Band of Brothers, Westworld... the list goes on and on. It's got to the stage where if the HBO tag is on a show then I'm at least giving it the benefit of the doubt. As for The Deuce? It's basically The Wire with cracking fanny and the lack of fanny was quite literally the only criticism that anyone could have about The Wire. This show is so, so fucking good.
Silvio Tattiescone
I like the way it doesn't glamourise prostitution like Pretty Woman did. The line "some of these girls are sitting in buckets of penicillin between tricks" (or somesuch) made my toes curl.

tongue_tied_danny
Just finished episode 3 and I am loving this. James franco's "Frankie" character has definately been influenced by De Niro's "Johnny Boy" from Mean Streets.
