After a few years in exile living in Glasgow’s salubrious south side, I’ve returned home to live on the Costa Del Solway. After a busy week of moving house, this afternoon will be spent sitting on my own in my favourite pub, drinking my favourite drink. I’ve not set foot in this fine establishment in over 2 years, but it feels like I’ve never been away. There’s football on one telly, horse racing on the other and old men standing at the bar drinking. The world is healing people, we’re almost there.

No more tea house for you my man. Those tables making a regular return to the thread do seem worth it though.

Nice to see a return of this pub and a perfect pint completing the story. Enjoy! X

Heading into Glasgow on Wednesday under the guise of picking up a couple of her Christmas presents. That shit will take about 45 mins tops, then I shall visit several hostelries for refreshment.

Where do I locate the finest T the city centre/merchant city area has to offer?

Go to London, I guarantee you'll either be mugged or not appreciated. Catch the train to London, stopping at Rejection, Disappointment, Backstabbing Central and Shattered Dreams Parkway.

"The torch" Wembley had last orders at 13:00 which was weird.

The tank gear is good, but the most memorable pint in recent years in Glasgow for me was in the Alpen Lodge. I seen off a hangover with 2 from the tank in Citizen one day before heading to the Alpen Lodge expecting the quality to decrease, instead it was that way where the whole world was just right....... The T was fucking amazing, served in split new Christmas T glasses and that way where they just seem to fly down yer thrapple. Amazing. This thread just gave me feels thinking of that day.

Woke up this morning fully clothed and one arm still inside my jacket. After an absence of several years from my favourite watering hole, yesterday was a day dedicated solely to me. An afternoon spent reminiscing of all the good times spent in that pub, drinking that drink.

Tennent’s lager, we salute you.

This particular story is now complete. An emotional tale of returning home, thankfully the local still open and serving the good sTuff, and a conclusion befitting of a day on the T. It really doesn't get any beTTer. Thanks for the posts MM.

Any time I'm in the city centre with the wife shopping, I let her crack on with the shopping part whilst I visit some of the more earthy and traditional pubs, of which the Alpen is always one. It does indeed serve a glorious T.

I will definitely visit Citizen when I'm in on Wednesday as suggested yesterday to try the tank, but the Alpen will 100% be on the agenda as well.

The Alpen Lodge is an absolute gem in amongst all the largely commercialised and generic office blocks and establishments of the city centre.  Not been in for a few years right enough.
