HibeeJibee
4 hours ago, Eednud said: Dens Park on Wednesday afternoon 6 October 1948 saw Dundee United win the Forfarshire Cup for the first time since 1929/30. This was the 1947/48 Final and a 5,000 crowd wasn’t too bad although Wednesday was the half-holiday for shops in Dundee, not sure about Arbroath. https://www.arbroatharchive.co.uk/matchdetails.php?id=5405 https://www.arabarchive.co.uk/matchdetails.php?id=4011 Due to the Final being delayed Dundee got invited as Forfarshire's representative to the 1948-49 Dewar Shield on the grounds they were holders, and went on to win. This was itself an epic as their 2-legged SF v Aberdeen ended drawn, and went to a replay in October 1949; then the 2-legged Final wasn't played until February & April 1950. Majority of the 1949-50 tournament had been played before 1948-49 had finished. Dundee didn't lift the Dewar Shield outright again till 1958 - when in remarkable circumstances they won 1956-57 edition at Fraserburgh on a Friday night, and 1957-58 by coin toss after drawing at Buckie the following afternoon.
