Surely to f**k? First league game is two weeks tomorrow. Not long to integrate 4/5 starters into the team.

I’m fully expecting us to be saying this with a week to go, with the way things are looking. I think there’s pretty much zero chance of getting four in within the next two weeks either. My prediction is two after the Alloa game - which leaves you with your focal point having not played with anyone.

Imagine we don’t get a striker before the league starts though 😂

That is a thoroughly depressing thought and doesn't even bear thinking about.

I am curious what the delay is, it can't all be part of the 'plan' because we're beyond the point of integrating so many into the squad successfully for the first league game (1 or 2 I could understand).

Have we missed out on our primary targets? Are players holding off until nearer the start of the season (I can sort of understand that for loans but not for those with no contract). There really hasn't been many rumours either (except for the fantasy tries at signing Graham and McKay).

I need some signing excitement and not more construction porn.

Come on Ayr, do something!

I’ve got to admit, that I do quite like the construction porn!

I think they’ve fucked the plan and we are now scrambling about, particularly in terms of a striker by the sounds of it. You just need to look at the style of strikers we have tried to get to see that!

I would be confident the striker is going to come from the English market, and given the timing that’s a worry as there won’t be able to be as much input put into their signing as there was with Akinyemi who was clearly planned.

Let’s hope we all look a bit silly soon, with an imminent double signing!

I am not convinced there ever was one tbh. Transfer windows under this regime have been an absolute shitshow and that doesn't look like changing. Making a few offers for players who were never likely to join us anyway just so it looks like they at least tried does not hide the lack of a coherent plan.

I wonder what past-it former Scotland international we can sign this time?

Last summer was generally good, as was the first January.

I think the chase for a new striker has been done a bit strangely. They clearly had Ruari Paton down as their first choice and the player went elsewhere. It happens to every club but choosing to fall back on Graham and McKay were bizarre as it never felt like we had any chance of getting them.

I can’t really complain about anything else. Signings take time and I think the club have found themselves in the situation of needing to cut down on a pretty bloated squad before getting players in. As long as we get a couple in before the Morton game and then there’s almost a whole other month after that to finish it off. A striker and a right back are definitely needed for the league kicking off I feel. Against Stenhousemuir that’s where I felt we were lacking the most.

Im still holding out hope that big Kirk gave Arsenal such rave reviews about his time here that they are going to loan us their next star in the making striker for the season, but are just waiting on finishing their preseason before letting him join us, buts its all lined up and ready to go. We can but dream...

What was he getting stick for?

Quite a few of our support had him as a "hate" character as he didn't "get stuck in" and seemed a bit too "feart tae tackle", however for those of us who could understand the game a bit better we could all see that he was a really good footballer who linked up the play very well.

Basically if anything went wrong Robbie would get blamed for it, even if it had nothing to do with him.

He was wildly inconsistent. At times he was worse than a man short then he would go through phases of looking like he could be sold on for a massive fee.

Crawford was here a lot longer than McCalls time though. Did McCall not save Crawfords career by improving his game? From memory Crawford had a brilliant first season and went down south for trials. He then regressed and was also injured a lot so it looked like he would be moved on. I blame Crawford for not building on his first season and either getting a move or cementing his place. A very good player on his day which doesn't happen often enough and this also seemed to be the case at Partick

It's certainly happening often enough with us. He's at least a solid 7/10 every week. Works hard and chips in with assists and goals. In terms of positions he's played in a deep central midfield role, the no.10 position and also right midfield and right of a forward 3. As I said previously he's been outstanding for us and easily one of our most important heroes. Bit of an unsung hero in my opinion.

Sounds like a totally different player to the one we have mate.

McCall tended to stick him out wide which didn't help and basically what summed him up as "useless" for many of them was a game at Cappielow where he picked the ball up in the LB position and tried to beat a player at the edge of his own box, he was quickly dispossessed and it resulted in a goal for your good selves. That was probably the straw that broke the camels back for his doubters.

To be fair, some of our north terrace geniuses would doubt the grass was green when looking right at it.
