The Ultimate Super Ayr Thread

Recommended Posts

I seem to recall Ayr fans getting thrown out a pub in Coatbridge a few years ago cos the Landlady heard that song and kicked off.

It's not difficult to see why, but some folk still refuse to understand that we look like a bunch of backwards racist wallopers every time it comes out.

Even if he takes a couple of games to bed in and find form, it feels like we have goals in the rest of the team. The service from Murphy in particular against St Johnstone was brilliant and we should really be a threat at set pieces this year, Stanger taking the goal well gives me hope of 5+ from him and McGinty this year from Corners/freekicks. We've still to see what McGeady and Rose can offer from set pieces, but it is looking promising early doors.

100%

Murphy's set pieces and deliveries on the run were excellent and way above anything we've had in a long time, we also know that McGeady is a dead ball specialist and excellent crosser of a ball and going by Rose's highlight package it would seem he's a free kick specialist also.

It was also mentioned that Pendlebury was a dead ball specialist but of course we're still to see if he'll be nailing down a starting place or not.

Irrespective, it would appear very promising for us.

Yeah I think we are past telling folk to shut up at games when they sing it.  Probably needs raised with the club directly.

As said above by @Ayr23there will be folk who haven't even thought about it joining in and a statement from the club might help.

Paul Smith is also good with a dead ball.

I have emailed the club asking for them to do this, let's see what they say.

Plenty suitable phrases to go in there

ugly b*****ds

jakey b*****ds

smelly b*****ds

our rivals

I'd personally go with "Diet Rangers"

I prefer dirty as can refer to hygiene matters or their style of play....or if you think it should be less personal ans be flub related then I'd go with.. cheatin' b's...

It’s not an outwardly racist song but the connotation is definitely there and I think it’s best left behind especially when we’re trying to make it as a progressive community club.

Self policing is great when it’s one or two fuds making stupid comments but when you’ve got a hundred people singing a song you aren’t really going to be able to stop it. A wee comment or post from the club would be helpful but it genuinely wouldn’t surprise me if the club haven’t even considered the connotations of the song.

It’s a tricky one for the club to address - for the younger ones it’s an educational thing and for the older ones just pigheadedness.

The club had a diversity style awareness raising/campaign thing previously, where both Tomi and Gondoh contributed well. I’m not exactly sure how it would look but something like that, involving local children from different backgrounds again as well as members of the support might work well. Possibly develop some form of campaign video around United for All etc and how that song in particular can be perceived.

That would obviously depend on how comfortable some of our new signings felt doing something like that, but their involvement would obviously be good alongside other members of the first team squad.

ETA, I wouldn’t be in favour of authoritative style chucking about banning orders for kids.

Good morning,

Thank you for your email.

We can confirm that we have received your payment of £570 and season tickets are currently being processed by our ticket company this week.

In the meantime, can you please confirm if you would prefer a Stand (seating) or Terracing (standing) for Saturday’s match? We will then get a ticket sent through to you.

Kind regards,

Ayr United Football Club

Never got any response to my ticket request for Dam Park, ended up paying in.

Also that was 22 days ago, and not a peep since.

I was sorry to read about the passing of Iain Ferguson who was latterly the Head of PR at Ayr Racecourse and a huge United fan.

When he was head of the West Sound sports show back in the day, he gave a young Buky some live reporting gigs (unpaid) covering the Ayrshire Junior's.

I sadly had to leave to get paid employment elsewhere but will always be really grateful for the kindness and opportunities he gave me.

RIP Iain.

Listening to the West Sound sports show used to be part of the Saturday routine when I went to the football with my Papa. He liked to put it on the radio after Ayr games. It was a shame that it got stopped - their coverage of local football was good. Was always a good listen.

RIP Iain.

I got started listening to West Sound'd coverage on Saturday afternoons following a stay in the County hospital to get my appendix out.
Hadn't really paid much attention to local football outside of Ayr, but that afternoon hearing updates from teams I'd never heard of like Craigmark Burtonians helped pass a crap afternoon.  Shame indeed it stopped, to be replaced by soul-less corporate stuff.

In the late 80s and early 90s most of my Saturday afternoons were spent playing football in the garden with the radio tuned to Westsound and turned up so the whole street could hear it. Nothing matched the excitement of a report from a match catching a 'live' goal!
