It's entirely without merit. There's nothing in the article that supports the headline and the picture they've used. Which should perhaps give unionists pause for thought the next time you read a story criticising the Scottish government, or you're mocking people taken in by Daily Mail Farageist lies. Although I'm sure it won't.

Not directly referencing it in this article doesn't mean it wasn't implied in the material used to write this either. s_dog
This is just a continuation of the Government's consultation on restricting alcohol marketing that's been on the go for at least a year. The only link to the Record's nonsense is the part on reducing the visibility of branding by restricting the sale of branded merchandise like umbrellas, t-shirts, mugs and glasses. So pint glasses in pubs is very much made up by the Record and they'll be delighted to have reeled in so many with their story.

Here is an article from January 2023 that echos the same https://www.thescottishsun.co.uk/news/10064864/snp-plan-ban-alcohol-logo/ Either 2 separate papers have fabricated the same idea 21 months apart or there is truth in what the SG are mooting.
sparky88
2022 Scottish Government consultation paper on alcohol marketing. https://www.gov.scot/publications/consultation-restricting-alcohol-advertising-promotion/pages/10/ Suggesting that branded pint glasses might be going seems well within the scope of this paper
s_dog
I'm not going to repeat what I've already posted but if you want to ignore the fact it only mentions sales of branded materials and makes no mention of marketing inside pubs and leap to the same conclusion as the likes of the Sun and Record, well that's up to you.

Todd_is_God
I reckon some* people are in for a surprise when they see the price of their box of beer at the end of this month. I still see quite a large number of people whenever this is discussed on social media who seem to think it only affects cheap tramp juice. To give an example, the standard price for 15 x 440ml cans of Heineken in Tesco, in England, is currently £15. That excludes any clubcard offers or multi buy discounts which often bring the price closer to £10. The same pack in Scotland (which is already £16.50) will soon have to cost £21.45 and, of course, clubcard offers or multi buy deals are not permitted. The minimum unit price of alcohol will jump 30% at the end of the month. Your 5% stuff like Heineken will go from £2.50 per litre to £3.25.

Big Bobo Posted yesterday at 10:53 Share Posted yesterday at 10:53 This is happening on the 30th September. I'm fortunate that my parents live in England and my partner is Welsh so I am down in both countries frequently. I will just stop at Carlisle on the way home and buy our drink saving a lot of cash.

Ah I see where you got confused... Heineken is not a premium brand drink And even if it's not discounted from £1 per can it's still a more cost effective way of getting shitfaced alone in the house than Carlsberg Special Brew (£9:50 for 4 at Sainsburys = 72p/unit) Although you will have to go to the toilet more often so you might want to pay the extra for CSB if your prostate's not what it was Edited 16 hours ago by topcat(The most tip top)
