Scotland players capped while playing in furren places

Who was the last Scotland player capped while playing for a club in a country that doesn't speak English? Johnny Russell and Kenny Miller got capped playing in the US and Canada respectively, but who was the last capped while playing in like a properly furren place? How many have ever done it? I can't think of any since Lambert, Collins and Booth. Murdo MacLeod and Denis Law did it. Who else?

We're not really ones for travelling, are we.

We never capped Anya while he was in Spain, but he's the closest one I can think of

Did Olly Burke get caps whilst he was at RB Leipzig?

Yes, yes he did.

I thought this was going to be more fun tbh.

Ok, before that...

Souness, Jordan, Archibald, Mo Johnston, Black and McInally have all done it too. I'm not the best at remembering the more recent ones though.

Only ones that spring to mind are Gary O'Connor when he was playing for Lokomotiv Moscow, and Alan Hutton and Oli Burke as already mentioned.

Alan Hutton got capped in 2013 while on loan at Mallorca.

Allan McGregor got 9 caps while at Besiktas in 2012-13.

Brian O'Neil got 4 caps while at Wolfsburg 98-2000. I'd totally forgotten he was ever there.

Garry O'Connor got 4 caps in 2006-07 while at Lokomotiv Moscow.

Stephen Fletcher got 3 caps while at loan to Marseille in 2016.

We must be extremely unusual for a medium sized European country in having so very few examples like this.

I'd imagine somewhere like Austria might be the same. All their best players will migrate to Germany as opposed to Italy or France or England historically. We're much the same with England

Yeah, it's a combination of a relatively strong league (no other countries our size have a Celtic or Rangers), a historically very strong league, not the best national team since footballers started moving around European in big numbers and a major country next door with over 100 full time teams.

But I still reckon British and Irish players move abroad less than most other nationalities.
