Good players but both 34 and short of pace.
Gordon EF
Good signing for Airdrie and good move for Aggy if he's looking to step into management. It's been pretty well documented that his form wasn't the best last season but up until that point, he was outstanding for us and would probably get into my all time East Fife XI since I've been supporting the club. Great player.
Chapelhall chap
Posted elsewhere on Agnew but that is an excellent signing.
WhoAmI
Probably not as good a signing from us as Wilkie and Page but Agnew decent nonetheless.
Mon_The_Fife
Agnew will go down as one of the best central midfielders to play in the lower leagues. His best days are probably behind him now, but is still capable of producing a bit of magic and chipping in with goals too.

I’m getting misty eyed just thinking about their time doon The Rock. Just need big Jimmy Lister back as player/striker coach.
Diamond Oracle
I’m not as excited as some others appear to be by this signing as he’s coming to the end of his career so is unlikely to be the same player he was a few years ago. However I’m happy that Murray’s got his own assistant for the first time in three years.I’ve no doubt he’ll contribute plenty in the season to come.
Guest Peter LaFleur
Don’t quite get this excitement over Agnew? Are Airdrie living in 2011? Actually, don’t answer that.

It's the surprise of having signed our first midfielder in 3 seasons. To be fair, Paton was strong for us despite being 34, but its difficult to expect someone surely approaching the twilight of their playing career, signed from a team in the same level of football, and splitting their remit with assistant manager responsibilities to somehow be the magic wand that we need on the park. But hey, I hope he turns out to be one of those guys with a late career resurgence so long as he is at the club. FLDiamond
Have to say that I’m very happy with Agnew coming to the club and believe that being reunited with Murray will be the spark he needs to show some pre-covid form. Also great news that Murray is here for the upcoming season. I think the next 2-3 weeks will be a crucial time to get the right faces in and start building for next season. Agnews experience could prove to be vital and he’ll surely fit easily in to the new look team. We’re 4-5 QUALITY signings away from a team that can go all the way next year. Hoping Murray gets the full backing of the board over the summer. But a good start, happy that a key signing is in so early
Old Diamond
Aye Well the die has been cast on the managerial front, not totally convinced but sometimes it is better the Devil you know etc. Happy to see that it is a one year extension as if he does not do the business this coming season then he should definitely not be given longer, that said it might give the management team the motivation to succeed. Given the trouble Falkirk are having selecting a suitable replacement we have probably done the best we can. As has already been said it is now up to Murray and Aitken to find a squad that can achieve promotion, this league is winnable this year - Falkirk are still in a mess, Cove are not invincible, Alloa are possibly on the wain and I am not convinced about this so called Juggernaut that is Queens Park, we managed 2nd this year despite not being consistent, so if we can get rid of the dead wood and bring in some good signings we potentially could just do it. You don't often hear me being optimistic but I think this could be the best chance we have had for many years.
++Ammo - Airdrie++
Big Sean, Ally Roy and Craig Thomson, 3 of the more "high profile" departures. Skipper Sean among those moving on (airdriefc.com) Edited May 26, 2021 by ++Ammo - Airdrie++
Mr November
I’m quite surprised to see those three go, Murray’s been more ruthless than I expected. The others are no great loss but I’d have been ok with those three staying around, albeit as backups rather than starters. I’m not sure about Roy but I suspect Crighton and Thomson will find another club in this division easily enough. I think that news leaves us with the following who are either under contract or have been offered one: Currie, Walker, Fordyce, Kerr, McCann, Paul McKay, Ritchie, Agnew, O’Reilly, Robert, Carrick, Gallagher and Pyott. There’s certainly the core of a decent team there, I’m looking forward to seeing who we can keep from that lot and who else comes in. AJ77
Maybe would've kept Sean for backup, but could see this season he wasn't at his best hopefully gets a move soon top professional. As for the others 100% no complaints, pretty clear Murray fancies O'Riley over Thomson and Gallagher over Roy be as well trying to fresh things up, Currie, Kerr, Fordyce and Carrick should be priority for new contracts imo Edited May 26, 2021 by AJ77
Francesc Fabregas
Rumours abound that Sean Crighton will join Stenhousemuir. What kind of player are we getting? From my knowledge, he's a fair ordinary meat-and-potatoes defender, and that makes him more than good enough to hang with the jobbing strikers in League 2.

Both are fit guy's who run about but have no ability.

Roy and Thomson is no great loss for me to be honest, I'm sure after about 4 or 5 times seeing Roy play, i commented on this thread he would be in the lowland league soon.....watch this space. Big Sean i'm gutted about, but the time is right. He's been nothing but a model leader, captain and professional and I wish him nothing but success in the future. 2 minutes ago, AJ77 said: Maybe would've kept Sean for backup, but could see this season he wasn't at his best hopefully gets a move soon top professional. I'd have Kerr as a priority signing.

No nonsense, will pop up with goals from set pieces and get lumped up front chasing a goal with 2-3 mins to go.

I thought sometimes he was a bit of a bombscare with us tbh this season mistiming header, just didn't look comfy with the ball at his feet but i'd like to think he'd do a good job in league 2, very rarely injured as well should be a good guy to have in the dressing room. 2 minutes ago, Kenny_m said: Wouldn't disagree with that although i expect there could be interest from others in Currie and Kerr. I think it's a given Mckay will get a new deal, wouldn't be surprised to see Jack get one either. Thought Paul look better in the back 3 and out the way off everything
