charger29
would it not be completely reasonable for a team to get hammered all the way to division D in order to have an easy qualifying route? It's possible. Probably not a good idea for a typical League A or B country due to NL playoff winners being 4th seeds for the main tournament draw, losing competitive fixtures compared to other decent teams, world ranking will tank due to the poorer teams you play, which affects the world cup qualifying draw etc.As the other guy said money is a factor too. Some analysis was done on teams like Finland/Armenia/Lithuania. Their chances of reaching the finals double from being in League D compared to League C.When hosts return for the 2024 tournament, I think they may combine the League C and D playoffs somehow. So it could become a bit of a moot point.

Not sure if you can survive that.I watched the first 25 mins. They were very open behind the midfield. There is a lot of talent there but they seem to struggle to bring it all together.Still want them out of our playoff path but it's looking unlikely now.
Jim McLean's Ghost
Finland had a good 2-0 win over Bosnia yesterday. Teemu Pukki with a double and apparently Glen Kamara played out his skin.

QwaarJet
Is there any site that does updates of the playoffs after every round? I'd love to see where things stand at the moment.

charger29
It's difficult to read much into how the playoffs would look just now. Partly due to the NL tournament getting in the way. By tonight Luxembourg will have played twice as many games as Portugal but will likely only be a handful of points ahead. If Portugal were ahead of Lux, Scotland's game would be against either Bulgaria or Romania (draw to decide). It's the same in the other 5 team groups.Things will settle down a bit after the next set of fixtures. It'll always be a bit difficult to read due to the odd numbered groups and wacky fixtures (see N.Ire) though.

Best example is group C, where Northern Ireland will be 9 points ahead of The Netherlands if they beat Belarus tomorrow. However, the Dutch have 2 games in hand and NI still have to play both the Dutch and Germans twice in their remaining 4 games. Obviously they will qualify through normal channels.. Finals Tournament does not actually count as Division A playoffs for the purposes of Euro 2020 qualification. (It does rank them 1-4, IIRC). On paper if none of Portugal, Netherlands, England or Switzerland finished top 2 in their Euro 2020 groups they'd do the whole affair again in March (without a 3rd-4th). There will be a Division A playoff, backfilled with teams from Division B if necessary.

Remember seeing last night that R. Ireland are now five points clear at the top of their group and did a double take. Of course doesn't mention that Switzerland are in their group with two games in hand, and Ireland have essentially been playing jobbers since the start of the league.

charger29
Play-off picture at end of Round 4/10: The play-offs would be: A: Switzerland vs Croatia ----- Portugal vs Netherlands B: Boznia&Herz vs Bulgaria/Romania ----- Austria vs Wales C: Scotland vs Bulgaria/Romania ----- Norway vs Serbia D: Georgia vs Belarus ----- N.Macedonia vs Kosovo There would be a draw to decide which League (B or C) Bulgaria and Romania go to. Something to keep in mind is that UEFA have said they may try to keep host nations apart in the play-offs. Romania are a host nation (Hungary too btw). Nothing concrete on this yet I don't think. Iceland don't make it because group winners (Bosnia & Herz. in this case) can't play teams from a higher league. There space then goes to Romania.
