Its clear that its time for the clubs in the West who have an interest in progression take the bull by the horns and breakaway from the West Region and the SJFA. I know some clubs were discussing the prospect last season but were, erroneously as it transpired, placated by the noises coming from the Hampden office.

ICR posted a few weeks ago that a club ‘from the coast’ had attempted to raise a breakaway league and got a poor response from clubs in the west. I have said all along it will take one or two of the teams with bigger supports to lead the movement or it won’t happen.

I think another few months of bullshit will see some of the more progressive clubs take matters into their own hands. Especially if the attitudes of Robertson etc maintain.

Totally agree, the whole situation is a farce.  Need a few teams to take the initiative and breakaway.

What a tragic and ignorant post that, sadly, probably sums up a lot of clubs in the West Region and elsewhere. A genuine West of Scotland League within the pyramid has to be set up at some time in the future.  An informed change of direction by the clowns in the  SFA of no more pandering to the SJFA would definitely help to move things along with concensus and agreement. There will never ever be progress under the present so-called leadership of the SJFA, nationally or regionally, none whatsoever. Just the usual delaying and obstructive tactics. As another poster said , can't mind who it was, but unfortunately some of the juniors are destined to head into the same barren wilderness as that of the Welfare Leagues whiich have practically dwindled into obscurity over the decades. There is evidence of that already in the ERJFA with their unfathomable bunker mentality, especially in the darker areas of West Lothian. And there is no need for it, absolutely no need for it.

I hope I am wrong but I cannot see the West Region clubs doing anything in the next season or two to break the impasse given the 'grade' mindset, even though I do believe that a coming together, a gradual integration of Scottish football is inevitable... and necessary. I live in the west and attend a few games when the Hoops aren't playing at home. I love going to grounds that are embedded into the community and are light years away from the rising commercialism that is polluting our society, but the pyramid, flawed as it is, is the way ahead, not only for juniors but for ambitious amateurs as well if they don't want to be left behind.

I suppose if some clubs want to exist in a bubble of isolationism and don't want to join the pyramid in any shape or form then that's fair enough, but access to the Scottish Cup from outwith the pyramid should then be restricted only to the winners of the Junior Cup and the SAFA Cup. In saying that, I sincerely hope things move forward in the next few years. One can only hope.

Great point about the east, one of their leagues is 8 teams next season, purely to appeal to the local games for local people types who seem to be so strongly resistant to change.
I dont think its 2 years off, I believe this agm will have caused a few of the more progressive clubs to waken up.

Well they fall in the highland league boundaries so they should apply there. Want to run a senior team in the North of Scotland? Go to the highlands.

The pyramid that should be in place is promotion/relegation between professional tiers and below, which already is in place. Plenty of countries have leagues/systems outside the pyramid, some more than others. Plenty of countries only have a "pyramid" in theory as well (like The Netherlands).

Is EUFA not an Anglicisation of the acronym UEFA, as in Union of European Football Associations as opposed to the original French acronym. Although now I have looked into that, it really should be UEAF. First VAR in conjunction with these new IFAB directives, now this, I don't know what to think anymore.

UEFA's original name is in English and it stands for: Union of European Football Associations. The full name in French is Union des Associations Européennes de Football, which abbreviates as UAEF, although in French generally the name UEFA is used as well. EUFA is probably a mix-up with the EU, who have nothing to do with UEFA. Although funnily enough the French name for the EU is UE (Union Européenne).
