Will be interesting to see if the numbers are there for SF to try to cobble together some sort of government with all the smaller parties and independents. That would let FF and FG off the hook to a certain extent.
No chance, won't happen imo.
FF/FG or FF/SF. SF might be better to keep playing the victim until they become the largest party in a new election.

Ultimate seats as projected by UCD:
Fianna Fáil 45
Sinn Féin 37
Fine Gael 36
Greens 10
Labour 6
S/PBP 5
SD 5
Ind/other 16

Who are Sinn Fein going to form a coalition with if they don't form one with either of the other two parties?  FF & FG projected to have 81 seats (don't know if that includes The Speaker) so Sinn Fein would need everybody else on board in some shape or form and even then they would never have a majority.

Interesting discussion on BBC Radio Ulster re the Irish general election. 4 pundits, consensus was a Sinn Fein/Fianna Fail coalition - with the Greens tagged on as patsys to blame for when it all goes wrong, as there is no trust between the party leaders or the TDs in general who will have to work in cabinet together so it won't last - for the reasons discussed above (i.e. that Micheal Martin won't want to be the only FF leader not to be taoiseach and his party in general are desperate for power) although there was one dissenting voice reckoning a fresh election was possible but because Fianna Fail wouldn't fancy that they would go into coalition (with Sinn Fein), whereas Fine Gael would be reasonably happy with another election.

SDLP won't be happy - Nicola Mallon (who is against the Fianna Fail/SDLP "partnership") campaigned for Fine Gael, and Colm Eastwood for FF. Sinn Fein won. So the SDLP backed both horses in a two horse race and lost.

Numbers are not likely to be there then for anything that doesn't involve at least one of FF or FG.

FF doing worse than expected on transfer votes, looks they won't make the 80 seats even together with FG. So there could be a theoretical majority without either the "big 2".

So is Mary Lou first get a Jag to Buckingham Palace and persuade Her Majesty that SF can form a stable coalition?

Downing St apparently talking again about the possibility of a bridge between N.Ireland and Scotland.

That would make sense to me in the event of a future United Ireland in the EU, linked to an Independent Scotland also in the EU. Not quite sure if that's how Boris would want to see the idea evolve.

Bridges are so last century. Instead of a static structure spanning the whole of the Irish Sea, split it into a few self powered sections that move autonomously from coast to coast. You could have bars and restaurants for travelers to relax in instead of driving in cramped conditions. Maybe call them ferries.

The main issue with a bridge to NI is its total impossibility

If we can have an airport on the Thames Estuary and a beautiful Garden Bridge in London, anything is possible, just costs an enormous amount of money for something that nobody needs and only one man seems to want.

Those plans for the new bridge in full.

Apart from the fact it is virtually impossible to build one, the thought of a bridge between a united Ireland and an Indy Scotland being built and paid for by the English government is stauner inducing.
