Let's have mandatory random pieces of cloth with no regards to effectiveness or use.

I could see the point if there was a minimum standard of mask required and data to prove effectiveness.

Given the fact I was the only person wearing a mask in the petrol station (not robbing it) the other day and the number of people in the co-op earlier also sans mask I think this is starting to become a waste of time.

I have been against them being mandatory from day one but the SNP are obsessed with them.

For me, it’s not even just about masks necessarily, it’s about getting people back to assessing their own risk based upon the scenario they find themselves in - which is what has happened for thousands of years and is going to happen again whether the Lovejoys like it or not.

I'm old enough to remember when places like this were held up as a shining light throughout the pandemic by #ZeroCovid cultists!

It is possible to give credit to countries, especially those with land borders, as to how they managed to keep infections low in the early part of the pandemic and criticising their vaccine rollout as resulting them in effectively having to remain shut whilst other countries can perhaps open up.

I'm not convinced that is 100% true, plus it's absolutely possible to present data in such a way that it supports whatever you want it to.

It just looks a bit amatuer to not present any.

You don't say..

BBC Scotland reporting all councils will move to a "modified level 0" from next Monday.

Making it up as they go along.

I think we can all guess what the modified bits will be...

I'll save my tear stained seething post until what modified bits will be announced.

The thing is, social distancing was brought in in response to the pandemic initially, with masks added later (July 2020?). These measures were introduced at a time we had no vaccines let alone widespread vaccine coverage. More than half the UK population has been fully vaccinated now.

This is not March 2020, July 2020 or indeed December 2020. We have an entirely different landscape now - we have better treatments and, more importantly, a highly effective vaccine that is preventing infections and reducing hospitalisations and deaths. Yes cases are high across the UK, but one look at the age breakdown and the impact of vaccination is apparent - they work. They have done what masks and social distancing did not; they have greatly reduced not only cases, but also hospitalisations and deaths. Masks and distancing, at best, will have impacted case numbers, but cases were very high amongst the groups now seeing very low rates of cases.

The conversation around masks almost always seems to revert to "your mask protects others" with the implicit allegation that not wearing one is selfish. This overlooks that vaccines also protect others; they protect the vaccinated person, which in turn protects the public by reducing the chances of someone catching covid, but also then the risk of passing it on.

If people want to keep wearing masks then they are free to do so. If they are worried about a loss of protection, wearing a proper mask and not a surgical/fabric one will give the wearer protection.

Leitch is going to use the English fans rioting as an excuse to keep meaningful numbers out of grounds isn’t he?

I'd love (hate) to see them try and spin that line. Fan behaviour outwith a stadium should have no bearing on the number of fans allowed inside a stadium.

If the "special dispensation" that was agreed for the Euro matches at Hampden to reduce social distancing is not replicated across domestic football, questions need to be asked.
