Really good sign.

Whether it's suitable for a population of over 50m is a different story... The Scottish system seems to have been based on what they felt could be delivered sustainably and delivered for a set time frame, with transparent data reporting. It seems to work as well. Pretty decent effort on first look.
ICTChris
33 minutes ago, Michael W said: Agreed. There are a few fury chimps on Twitter that are almost begging for it so they can get it up Johnson, but that's just weird Internet bubbles - basically the continuation of the #FBPE lot. The mental damage this caused is however plain to see and I honestly don't know how we even begin to address that. It will take a long time for quite a lot people to feel comfortable again and in some cases it probably is going to change them permanently. Somebody posted on here ages ago about how most of the people going apopletic on Twitter about people occasionally breaching 2m distancing in shops or buying an easter egg had #FBPE in their handle or bio. I saw a tweet, probably a troll, where a guy described being out walking his "doggo" on a path, a passing "gammon" wouldn't socially distance so he had to jump in a ditch and then cried all the way home and sent a follow up tweet about how this was all happening post Brexit. Very possibly a troll but stuff like that is very common. Performative fragility.
Billy Jean King
Given the news that for the first week in months, new infections across the EU as a whole have risen, it's too early to get too cocky, yes I agree with the lifting announced here but we need to still take the same care as we have been as a population. Portugal for example has 111 cases in one incident traced back to a "party" on the Algarve this week. Danger is still out there.
D.A.F.C
Interesting article, at the start of the outbreak there were more than a 1000 separate introductions of COVID to the UK, and most of them were from Spain, not folk going skiing as was previously thought. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-52993734?utm_source=pocket-newtab-global-en-GBLiverpool vs Athletico?
D.A.F.C
it says that was onle 3000 on one day and 20000 each day were travellingBut was madrid not a hotspot at the time? Not saying that the others were or weren't as responsible but a football match is more congested with pubs, hotels and of course the ground itself.

Donathan
What I don’t understand is that if we are getting like 5-10 new cases a day, and anyone who has symptoms is allowed to be tested, how can there be 2000 cases in the community?

It's an estimate based on asymptomatic cases being many times more prevelant than symptomatic, plus the length of time you would be contageous. Factor in as well that not everyone who develops a mild cough will bother getting tested. It's probably not far off based on last week's figures. Do you think the other 400,000 people a month were self isolating? The Atletico fans would have been here for 48 hours max in a small area compared to hundreds of thousands people going to work and socialising continually.
Michael W
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-53157284 100,000 people asked to self-isolate in England over the last three weeks. The track and trace obviously relies on 2 things: 1) People diagnosed engaging with the tracer; 2) Those contacted doing as they are asked and isolating. Fairly encouraging that it seems, at least on the face of it, that most diagnosed people are complying. Non-compliance appears to be 25% which is probably what you'd expect, roughly. Imagine that obtaining data on those isolating to measure compliance is next to impossible. Edited June 25, 2020 by Michael W

Distant Doonhamer
In the main, no. But let's not pretend that there are not a fair whack of people who are waiting to pour scorn on those who venture outside as they are perfectly entitled to do so. See also ÜberNats absolutely choking for it to happen in England so they can tell everyone how much of a goon BJ is.And let’s not pretend that there aren’t those happy or even delighted to pour scorn on anyone who feels a little uncertain or even afraid of the best way forward. I actually agree with much of what you have posted and I completely agree we really do need to be lifting restrictions. The risks in Scotland at the moment re COVID-19 are very small. That’s not to say I don’t have a background angst about the best way forward though.

I think it’ll have nothing to do with telephoto lenses and be every bit as bad as it looks because despite it being the sun in the sky, it turns British folk into absolute moon-howlers.
