DeeTillEhDeh
I'll be doing this every week because, well, it's better than work. Taking the PPG from the last five matches for each teams and spreading out over the rest of the season the league will finish... Dundee United 67 Inverness Caledonian Thistle 57 Ayr United 57 Arbroath 56 Dundee 55 Dunfermline 54 Greenock Morton 49 Alloa Athletic 35 Queen of the South 31 Partick Thistle 28 You can't use the past 5 games as a guide - probably better looking at the matches left and the points per game in the previous matches.

Meh. Both are equally stupid ways of predicting the future.
vikingTON
49 points seems a reasonable forecast for us, which means we'll probably be relying on lots of draws elsewhere or the coronavirus halting the league in the next few weeks to sneak into the play-offs.

RossBFaeDundee
Ah, the beautiful draw prevails. Arbroath and Dunfermline split the points in a goalless draw at Gayfield, which keeps Dundee in the play-offs for now. This Saturday sees a full card of matches: Inverness CT, now with a little bit of space separating them from the rest of the pack, travel to Recreation Park to take on a spirited Alloa side. Another win for the Caley could well cement their place as 2nd for good. Anything else may leave them susceptible to being caught once again. The marquis game of the week is the first of a doubleheader between two play-off contenders, Dundee and Ayr United. Dundee hold all 6 points from the teams' previous meetings, and have not conceded in 336 minutes (not including stoppage time), or over 3 and a half games. Ayr however are coming off 2 good results, and will be more than a match at Somerset against a Dundee team which still struggles to score. The return of Kane Hemmings should pose a threat, but is no guarantee. Dundee win, and they return to 3rd. Ayr win, and suddenly they open a 5-point gap on the Dees and pressure ICT. After their draw tonight, Dunfermline take on a struggling QoS side, in what should be a clear opportunity for the Pars to claim a valuable 3 points to continue their play-off push. Get their win, and they very well could find themselves in 4th place come Saturday night. Fail to get their desired result however, and their opportunity might well slip through their fingers. Arbroath go into their second consecutive lower-end play-off battle away to Morton. The Ton's luck finally came up short last night, but their record at home is still formidable. Arbroath will be more than able to mount a challenge however, having already claimed upset away wins against ICT and Dundee United not too long ago. The winner could well hold a play-off spot by the end of the day, but the loser will face a massive blow to their respective push. A draw is fairly unhelpful for either team (particularly Morton given their extra games played) at this point, so both teams will be looking to go all-out in order to grab the crucial win.

Not sure that works either. We’re 8 points down on the points gained from the 8 comparable games in the first half of the season - 12 points in the first half, 4 in the second. Edited to include the result v Ayr away that took place in December before our team changed in January but was the second game of the season at their place. Poet of the Macabre
We only need seven points to beat last year’s total, which seems easy until you remember we picked up one point from our final eight games last season. That followed five straight wins w/ clean sheets. Feel confident that we will end up 5th or 6th, unless we do a lot better or a lot worse than predicted.

RossBFaeDundee
Pretty intriguing day of fitba indeed. A day of missed chances for all involved. Caley sounded absolutely turgid today, with Alloa running rings around them and running out as comfortable winners. Thistle's run of inconsistency continues, and the effects of a bare-bones squad clearly seem to be causing the team big problems. At Somerset, neither team can take full advantage of ICT's blunder today with a 0-0 draw, giving Dundee their 4th consecutive clean sheet and Ayr their 3rd. Despite these good defensive records, neither team seems to be finding the net near enough and are paying for it. Ayr did find the net once today, but it was called for offside. They also had a penalty but it was well saved. It seems after losing their talismanic striker Nisbet to injury, Dunfermline are suddenly short of goals. A strong display against a lowly Queens side was for nought as they spent the whole first half trailing from an early goal, despite their control of the game. An early second half penalty looked to be the marker for change, but the Pars couldn't find that extra bit of magic to take all 3 points, leaving them with a disappointing result. From the sounds of things, it seemed like Arbroath ran the show at Cappielow this afternoon, with the usually free-scoring Morton struggling to match the Lichties on the pitch. An early 2nd half goal for Arbroath was followed by many close chances to extend their lead, but with the last kick of the game Morton eeked out a last-gasp equaliser to just keep them in the play-off talk. Arbroath will be kicking themselves for not seeing the game out, as they would've been essentially joint-4th with Dundee had they done so. Here's the situation as it stands: We now focus on Tuesday night, with 3 games with potential play-off ramifications taking place. We see the reverse fixture of the Dundee-Ayr doubleheader at Dens Park. Both sides doing very well at keeping out goals, not so much at netting them themselves. A win for either team would be massive, and Ayr could well be in 2nd place by the end of the night. That will depend not only on an away win at Dens but another collapse from ICT. Caley will be desperate to make amends for their performance today at home against formless Queens, and really there isn't a better team right now to play. John Robertson will look to once again reinforce his team's place as the best of the rest, but further dropping of points could have terrible consequences. In the final game of the night, the Nisbet-less Pars shake themselves off after a disappointing home draw to try and get an away win against bottom-of-the-league Partick. The Jags are coming off a more than respectable draw at Tannadice and will be looking to build momentum for their push for safety. Stevie Crawford's men however will see this as another opportunity to squeeze into the play-off spots, and if results go their way, could find themselves in 4th by the end of the night.
Stoo61
Woeful result for us today. Very worrying, we have gone from a team likely to bag a few goals to having very little threat from our strike force. Take 3 first team players out of any team at this level and they are going to struggle but to not beat that QoS team today is unforgivable. No urgency, strange managerial decisions and looked like we played FOR THE DRAW in the end. Actually the most seeth ive had in a while.

AsimButtHitsASix
Who was the last part time team to reach the top flight? In fact if Arbroath finish 2nd (14th overall) when was the last time a part time team finished that high up? I know Morton still had part time players when we finished 3rd in the old first division behind Dunfermline and Dundee United which would have been 13th overall.

I know they would be considered full-time overall but did Raith have anyone apart from McGurn in 2011 when they finished 2nd? Were Clydebank part-time in 1989? They were 13th overall. Meadowbank 14th in 87-88 but again don't know what their proper status was at the time.
