VE Day celebrations.

Recommended Posts

When I was out running yesterday along the Clyde, as I was passing the flats at Lancefield quay next to the exhibition centre, I witnessed the most peculiar sight. One of the ground floor flats which was decked out in bunting, had a family out on their little balcony waving union flags. The smallest of the children must have been about 5 or 6 years old, dressed in a full replica 2nd world war army uniform, medals the lot standing at attention. Strange times we live in.

My village has went full metal jacket.

Wifie dressed up ww2 style walking about getting clapped by neighbours

Younger family dressed up like the one you mentioned

People playing music and meeting up in the streets then posting it on facebook telling each other well done

Union jacks all over the shop

Genuinely scared to go out for a walk now because added to this weve got around 20-30 people dressed up as superheroes going round and getting photos taken with households. I thought the police would put a stop to it but no they joined in. Police encouraging non social distancing.

The USSR signed the non aggression pact with Germany to try and prevent a war which would kill 27 million of their citizens and devastate the entire country. That seems reasonable

Staggering levels of dishonest and revisionism. Only a Stalinist clown could come up with that.

Stalin did not sign a non agression pact. He signed an alliance with the Nazi's that was publicly sold as a non aggression pact.

Stalin had Poland between him and Germany, with France and the UK ready to go to war with Germany. The pact involved allowing Stalin to invade an occupy part of Romania and Poland, the whole of Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia and Finland (though the Finns put a stop to that) moreover the two sides traded commodities and weapon designs including the Soviets getting the plans to the Bismark class battleship and bf109 fighters while the Germans got large amounts of raw material including 900 000 tonnes of oil that was absolutely necessary for the invasion of France. Ironically after its fall Germany gained huge stocks of oil the French had built up, enough to fuel 3 army groups for a few months. That is to say Barbarossa.

Poland had been set up, in part to keep the Russians\USSR and the Germans apart.

The UK and France signed a similar pact with Germany in 1938 that simply reflected reality on the ground. The small part of Poland that the USSR occupied is now part of Ukraine and the 1920s borders had only been set by the results of that war.

See above for the countries invaded , you are a liar.

If you want to look for something external to blame for Nazism look at the democracies

This is not about Nazism but the two genocidal thugs, Stalin and Hitler, teaming up.

American capitalists who were in business with Nazi Germany.

So the country that actively conspired to invade multiple others is innocent but the country with trade embargoes on the Nazis is guilty for Nazism because some people within that country circumvented those trade boycotts?

Your are a Stalinist apologist who is totally talking out your arse.

Aye they had to invade the countries in Eastern Europe that were full of fascists such as Poland, Finland and the Baltic states.

It obviously didn't work but it was better than any other option available. They didn't have any moral imperative to go to war with Germany and were correct to try and stay out for long as possible.

And then immediately ramped up their economy and armed forces  for war with Germany.

They signed an alliance with the Nazis.

Your bullshit and lies about the "need" to invade tiny nations with populations of about 2 million is disgusting.

They traded military equipment and raw materials with the Nazis. Without that the Nazis would not have been able to invade France.

Without the captured French oil the Nazis would not have been able to invade the USSR.
