The Highland League could look quite different if a few Tayside teams make it up in the next couple of years. Will there be automatic relegation? Should be at least 2 going down from HL, otherwise it will take quite some time for the HL to change
LongTimeLurker
It would be a Club 42 type format apparently with the bottom HL club playing off against a winner from the licensed champions of the feeders. What isn't clear is how many clubs the HL intends to operate with moving forward so it may take a while before there is any need for relegation.

You're safe to assume that.

Another thing to consider is how the playoff can work when they dont know how many clubs the league 2 playoff will leave them with.

Everything else I've read has suggested it will work in the same way as the Lowland League.

Everything else I've read has suggested it will work in the same way as the Lowland League. It basically stems from https://www.pressandjournal.co.uk/fp/sport/football/highland-league/3023221/relegation-play-offs-look-set-to-be-introduced-to-the-highland-league-from-next-season/ The article frames it as a relegation play-off. Quote From next season the team finishing bottom of the Highland League could find themselves in a play-off against the champions of either the North Super League, the East Super League or the North Caledonian League. Quote If the proposal is approved, qualifying clubs from tier six would play-off for the right to face the team that finished bottom of the Highland League for the chance to climb the Scottish footballing pyramid. The one actual quote that kind of covers the Play-off format from Rod Houston, Highland League secetary: Quote There would be a play-off system but for one of the teams in tier six to play in the play-offs they would have to meet the criteria for membership of the Highland League. For it to follow the LL model, one licenced Tier 6 champion would be promoted unopposed and have no need of contesting a play-off. That's the only article that i've seen that's covered the news so far.

They would need some turnover of squad on last season to win the league.

Marten
is this midland league starting this season and which teams will be playing in it.Just waiting for official SFA confirmation, but that should just be a formality. The league will start this season with all 17 ERJFA teams from last season plus an amateur club making the step.

BOOOOOOO.mp4 176.67 kB · 1 download I had the pleasure of seeing Downfield in the flesh last season before it all ground to a halt. With the greatest respect sir, if Lochee Utd are signing much from that team, then it makes me feel more confident about our chances of toppling them off their perch this coming season.

AsimButtHitsASix
I can't even really begin to think of places or clubs past further north of the Tay who would, could or want to join the pyramid. Aberdeen and Moray are very well represented for their size, all the decent sized towns in Aberdeenshire are covered, the only places not covered in the Highlands seem to prefer the summer leagues (and are hardly bustling metropolises), travel's too much of an issue for the Western Isles and Shetland. Possibly Skye? In the Midland catchment area itself most the towns in Angus are included, Dundee's well served and St. Johnstone seem to pick up most fans throughout Perthshire so there maybe isn't much appetite for other clubs there. Who's left?... Dunblane? Pitlochry? Monifieth? Not much Once the three leagues tack on at the bottom is North half of the pyramid pretty much complete for the foreseeable?
